The City Commission of the City of Sanford,, Florida, met in Regular Session
at the City Hall in theCity of Sanford, Florida, at 7:30 010lock P.H. August 24, 1936.
Present: Commissioner S. 0 Shinholser, Mayor.

Absent: Commissioner W.A. Leffler.
Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Minutes of Regular Meeting of City Commission and meeting of the Municipal
Delinquent Tax Adjustment Board of August 10, 1936, read and approved.
Request next received from the Sanford Baseball Association, through H.M.Watson,
for $500.00 needed to clear up all outstanding indebtedness of the Sanford Baseball
Club for the 1936 season.
Thereupon, after considerable discussion, Commissioner Dupree moved that $500.00
be paid to the danford Baseball Association for the purpose as outlined in the request.
Seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried.
W.C. Hill next requested approval of bill for $47.44 covering materials
used to construct wood screen above the center field fence at the Municipal Athletic
Field, this screen being required for the playing of baseball games.
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved approval of this bill, seconded by
Commissioner Dupree and carried.
Invoice for $70.00 covering membership dues in the Florida League of Municipalities
for the year ending June 30, 1937, next presented, and on motion of Commissioner Whitehurst
seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried same was approved and ordered paid.
Petition next read from residents in the neighborhood of Myrtle and Elm Avenues
between Fourth and Fifth Streets, protesting against the operation of a junk yard in this
block, and same was referred to the Chief of Police for investigation and report.
5 On motion duly carried, the Commission next authorized the payment of $50.00
to the Seminole County Welfare Board for welfare work during the month of August 1936.
Further consideration next given to the request of the Chamber of Commerce
officials that the City defray the cost of certain needed repairs to the Chamber'of
Commerce building, but in view of the provisions in the lease for this building whereim
the lessee is to maintain same in a habitable condition and state of repair and shall
make, at its own expense, all necessary repairs, request refused.
Copy of plans submitted by the Gulf Oil Corporation for the construction of an
automobile service station at the northwest corner of Park Avenue and Second Street, next
presented and examined.
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved that the plans as submitted be approved.
ISeconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried.
On motion of Commissioner Whitehurst, seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried,
the Clerk was next instructed to purchase ten traffic signs designating the speed limits
from Lyle Signs Inc. at a cost of $2.25 each , these signs to be placed on Park Avenue
1 between Second and Tenth Streets,.

Communication next read from R.L.Glenn, Chairman, Seminole County Planning Council,
requesting that the City defray one -half the cost of long distance telephone tolls during
the month of July , amounting to $11.00 made by him in connection with WPA projects in
this City and County.
Thereupon , in view of the fact that these telephone calls were made on City and
County business, Commissioner Dupree moved that Mr. Glenn be allowed $5.50 to cover
one -half the cost of such tolls. Seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried.
Communication next read from Ashley P.Haggard regarding refinancing the bonded indebted-
nose of the City and same was ordered filed for future reference.
The Clerk next presented the following sidewalk liens covering the cost of construction
of sidewalk on the West side of French Avenue between Eighteenth and Twentieth. Streets,
and on motion duly carried, same were ordered recorded in the Seminole County Records:

Mr. L.A.Brumley next requested a reduction in the 1936 assessed valuation against
Lots 1, 2 and 3 of Block 2 Tier 3, also Lot 4 Block 2 Tier 3, and same was ordered filed
for consideration by the Commission when sitting as an Equalization Board.
The Clerk next reported $3844.00 on hand applicable to the Keefe , et al, judgments,
and $111.15 applicable to the United Mutual Life Insurance Co., judgment, these amounts be
thebiCilsnoe due the respectils oreditors.during the fiscal year 1935-36•
Thereupon Commissioner Whitehurst moved payment of $3944.00 to apply on the Keefe,
st al, judgments and $111.15 to apply on the United Mutual Life Insurance Co. judgment.
Seconded by Commissioner Dupree and carried
Commissioner Whitshurst next offered Resolution No. 488 and moved its passage and
adoption.
Seconded by Commissioner Lodge and carried by the following vote of the Commission:

said resolution No. 488 being in words and figures as follows:
RESC'LUTION no. 499
WHEREAS, The Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company disputes the validity of the assess-
sent of taxes against its real estate in the City of Sanford, Florida, for the years 1934
and 1935, upon grounds which seriously question such assessments and constitute a real
controversy in regard thereto, and said Company has tendered to the City the principal
amount of said taxes for the year 1934 in the sum of $8,655.94, and the principal amount
of said taxes for the year 1935 in the sum of #7,380.09, and the City Commission is of the
opinion that it is advisable, expedient and for the best interest.of said City that said
sum of $16,035.93 be accepted for said taxes.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Sanford,
Florida, that said sum of $16,035.93 be accepted in payment of said 1934 and 1935 real
estate taxes due by said Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company..
Passed and adopted tthis 24th day of August A.D. 1936

On motion duly carried the Clerk was next instructed to pay out of the "bondn purchase
fund" balance in full of judgment obtained against the City of Sanford by Augustus T.
Ashton, in accordance with the agreement approved at the meeting of May 11th, 1936, as
follows:

Interest at 6% from April 29,1936
Total. $3
On motion duly carried the Clerk was next authorized to make payment of $44.14 to
Sheriff J.F.NcOlelland, representing costs on the foregoing payment on the Ashton judgment.
On motion duly carried, instructions next issued to pay to Dofnos Corporati= all
funds remaining in the "Bond Purchase" fund, after receipt of the Atlantic Coast Line
Taxes and after payment on the Ashton judgment as previously authorized, to be used for
the purchase of bonds at market prices, provided, however, that no such purchases will be
made until authorized by the City Commission.
There being no further business the meeting then adjourned until 7 :30 O'Cloek
P.M.September 2nd. 1936, after which the Board re- oonvilned as a Municipal'Delinquent Tax
Adjustment Board.
Thereupon the following adjustments in taxes for the year 1933 and prior were author-
ized and approved:
