The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida met in adjourned session at the City Hall in Sanford, Florida at 2 O'Clock P M, May 8, 1929. PrAsent Commissioner Nelson Gray, Mayor. " S 0 Chase. " R A Newman " Vivian A Speer City Manager, G H Cairns. City Clerk, F S Lamson Absent: Commissioner Frank L Miller. Commissioner Newman moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare Acts for passage) at the present Session of the Legislature, amending Bills heretofore passed,in which authority is given to remit interest on delinquent taxes prior to 1928 taxes, and interest on delinquent and current paving installments, in all cases where payment is made before December 31,1929 said amending Acts to change the date in the Bills heretofore passed up to which interest will be remitted, from December 31, 1929,to June 15, 1929 . Seconded by Commissioner Chase, and unanimously adopted by the following vote: Commissioner Gray Aye " Chase Aye " Newman Aye " Speer Aye In the absence of City Attorney Wilson from the City, Mr L F Boyle, of the firm of Wilson & Boyle, was asked to appear before the Commission with reference to the preparation of the above bills, and upon his assurance that said amending Bills can be prepared at once, Commissioner Newman moved that Mr Boyle be instructed to proceed to Tallahassee with said bills in time to present to the Legislature for passage on May 10, 1929 "Local Bill Day." Seconded by Commissioner Gray, and adopted by the following vote: Commissioner Gray Aye " Chase Aye " Newman Aye " Speer Aye Upon motion of Commissioner Gray, seconded by Commissioner Chase and unanimously adopted, the Clerk was instructed to have prepared such Photostatic copies of the City's records as may be required by Attorney Geo. A DeCottes in connection with the suit of the City of Sanford Vs: The Chase National Bank of the City of New York. Commissioner Gray next reported as to the availability, forAir -port purposes, of a strip land of required width along the lake front,from Mellonville Avenue East to the City Limits, and a strip of land of required width adjacent to and parallel with the Eastern City Limits, extending from the lake front south to Eighth Street; that the land embraced by these descriptic meets all requirements of the U.S.Government with respect to size and location of Air- ports; that this property will afford a landing place for both Sea platy es as well as Air planes, making it particularly suitable for that reason; that all except four of the owners of this property have been communicated with and are willing to deed said property to the City for this purpose, for a period of ten years; the City to agree to deed it back to them at that time, all paving and bulkhead assessments to be allowed to lie dormant during the period of time the City has the property; and requestOd: the wishes of the City Commission with resApect to pro- ceeding further towards consummating such a transaction. After considerable diseuession, Commissioner Gray was asked to have the proposition put in concrete form and presented to the Commission for its approval. Commissioner Newman next made the motion that Commissioners Gray and Speer be authorized 62 MINUTES CITY COMMISSION, SANFORD, FLORIDA, _ May S at 2 P M 192 to meet with the Board of County Commissioners for the purpose of obtaining financial assisi ance and the use of the County prisoners in cleaning up and preparing the property reported on by Commissioner Gray for an Air -port, provided said property is obtained by the City for this purpose. Seconded by Commissioner Chase and unanimously adopted. On motion of Commissioner Newman, Seconded by Commissioner Gray and unanimously carried; the City Manager was instructed to investigate the matter of the salary paid the City Physi- to cian, also the scope of his work�and report /the City Commission. City Manager Cairns was also instructed to report the number of patients sent to the City Physician by the Welfare Board. City Manager next reported an offer of $150.00 received for air compressor at the Cemetery, said compressor not being used at present. Offer refused,in view of the fact that this compressor is liable to be required at any time, and furthermore, that the price offered is not commensurate with the value of the compressor.
