The City Commission of.the City of Sanford, Florida , met in Regular Session
at the City Hall in Sanford, Florida at Two O'Clock P M August 2$, 1929•
Present: Commissioner Nelson Gray, Mayor

Absent: Commissioner S 0 Chase.
Minutes of Regular Meeting of August 12, Adjourned Meeting of August 19th, and
Adjourned Meeting of August 20th 1929 read and approved.
Mrs D D Caldwell and Kiss Hoskins Jones again appeared before the Commission
with reference to the keeping of a cow , chickens and dogs adjacent to their homes in Rose
Court by V E Douglass.
City Attorney Wilson reported as to what steps can be taken by the Commission
in this matter, but prior to taking any such action, the Chairman appointed Commissioners
Newman, Miller and Speer as a Committee of three to wait upon Mr Douglass with a view to
abating this nuisance, and report back in forty -eight hours.
In view of the fact that the celebration originally planned for Labor Day,
by the "Believers in Sanford Club" has been postponed, Commissioner Gray moved that the
action heretofore taken appropriating $200.00 to help defray the expenses of this celebrar-
tion , be rescinded.
Seconded by Commissioner Newman and unanimously adopted.
Commissioner Newman neat moved that the City Clerk be instructed to demand
from the First National Bank, the security deposited with the Trust Department of said bank
to protect City of Sanford deposits therein.

On motion duly adopted, the following personal taxes were ordered cancelled
for the reasons given:
1927 Personal
D B Hodges 1.93 Over assessment ( recommended by M D Tarbell,Deputy Co
1929 Personal.
C E Briggs 7.50 Double Assessment ( same as C C Briggs)
Commissioner Gray next moved that the Clerk be instructed to wrtie to Mr
Erskine Landis for permission to use the property in Lake View Park fronting on park Avenue
for a tourist recreation and play- ground.
Unanimously adopted.
- The Clerk next presented bill from Hall & Pentland, properly approved by
Special_Counsel, George A DeCottes for services in connection with preparation of exhibits
and photographing in the suit of the City of Sanford Vs. the Chase National Bank, amounting
to #129.69
Commissioner Speer moved that it be approved.
Seconded by Commissioner Gray and adopted by the following vote:

The Clerk neat presented three Trust receipts heretofore received from
the Sanford Atlantic National Bank as security for City of Sanford funds on deposit in
said bank, and referred to the City Attorney for approval, said trust receipts covering
the following securities:
City of Winter Haven, Florida paving Bonds 5,000.00
Town of Madison Improvement bonds 59000.00
Town of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Walton County
Paving bonds 5,000.00
After a consideration of these securities, Commissioner Gray moved that this
security be refused and that the Sanford Atlantic National Bank be requested to exchange
them for either Government Bonds or Depository bond.
Seconded by Commissioner Speer and adopted by the following vote:

On motion of Commissioner Gray, seconded by Commissioner Newman and unanimously
adopted, the Clerk was instructed to write the owners of the Valdez Hotel Building with orders
to repair the fire escape on the South side of Said building, overlooking the alley, at once,
it appearing that this fire escape , in its present condition, is an obstruction and menace to
vehicular traff ice in the alley.
On motion duly adopted, bill of City Attorney Fred Wilson for $4.20 covering
telephone call to Tallahassee on City business was ordered approved.
Commissioner Miller neat stated--that due to rumors that had come to his atten,
tion, he wished to ask Chief of Police Williams whether he had ever given permission to Gordon
to carry a pistol.
This, Chief of Police Williams stated, he had not done.
The meeting then adjourned to meet again at 2 o'clock P. M., August 27, 1929•
