The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florlda, met in regular session at
the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at ?:30 o'clock P.~.July 1~,1947, but
due to lack of a guorum immediately adjourned until ?:30 o'clock P.~.July 18, 1947.

The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in adjourned regular session
at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida at ?:30 o'clock P.M. July 18, 1947.

Meeting called to order by the Chairman.
Current invoices and payrolls for month of June 1947,
ed as evidenced by voucher nos. 42? thru 534, submitted,
authorized.
properly audited and voucher-
examined, approved and payment
Monthly reports of streets, sanitation, health, water, police, fire, library, and
airport departments f or month of June 1947, submitted and examined.
Financial statement and statement of revenues and expenditures during month of June
1947, submitted and examined.
Bank statements in all accounts for month of June 1947, properly reconciled ,
submitted and examined.
Commissioner Carraway next introduced Ordinance No. 418, entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD,FLORIDA, ~ENDING PARAGRAPH 18 OF SECTION5
OF ORDINANCE NO 354 PASSED AND ADOPTED ON THE llth DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 194~, ~D LEVY/NC
AND IMPOSING CERTAIN LICENSE TAXES FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES, SAID PARAGRAPH 18 RELATING TO
AUCTIONEERS.
and same was read in full by the Clerk.
Mr. E.C.Smith Jr. President of the Sanford Retail Merchants' Association and Mr.
Jack Ratigan of Seminole County Motors then appeared before the Board and voiced their
objections to reducing the license tax for auctioneers, stating that it was theopinlon
of the Retail Merchants' Association that auction sales are not conducive to good
business nor to the good of the community.
Mr. George Austin, Manager of Thorpe Furniture Company, next spoke in favor
of reducing the license tax for furniture auctioneers from $100.00 to $20.00 nar day fn~

Seconded by Commissioner Bishop and carried.
The Commission then resolved itself in adjourned session as a Tax Equalization
Board to act upon complaints registered as to assessed valuation for year 1947.
The following action was next taken with respect to complaints as to valuations
presented to the Board at its meeting of July 7, and other complaints filed with the
Clerk since that

The Board next proceeded to a further study and comparison of the assessed
valuations on the 1947 Tax Roll with the actual cash value of the properties, with
the view of increasing the assessed valuations, final action being deferred, pending
further consideration.
The Commission then adjourned as a Tax Equalization Board until 7:30 o'clock
P.M. July 14, 1947.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
