The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in regular annual organi-
zation session at the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 8:00 o'clock P. M. on
January 5, 1971.
Present:
Mayor-Commissioner Lee P. Moore
Commissioner James H. Crapps
Commissioner Thomas S. McDonald
Commissioner Gordon T. Meyer
Commissioner W. Vincent Roberts
City Attorney W. C. Hutchison, Jr.
City Manager W. E. Knowles
City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr.
Police Chief Ben E. Butler
Commissioner-Elect Julina L. Stenstrom
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman.
Request next submitted by Police Chief Butler to replace the 1957 breathalyzer at
a cost of $950.00. Further that said funds were not budgeted, however, due to the low bids
received on police vehicle replacements, there remained sufficient unexpended funds in Police
Equipment Account No. 2256 to cover said purchase. Commissioner Crapps moved to authorize
the expenditure. Seconded by Commissioner Meyer and carried.
Police Chief Butler next requested an additional position of a communications clerk
in the Police Department in order to permit the release of a police officer for regular duty
and stated that additional salary funds were not necessary at this time, and on motion of
Commissioner Roberts, seconded by Commissioner Crapps and carried, same was approved.
There being no further old business to be transacted by the outgoing board, Commis-
sioner Roberts moved that the meeting adjourn sine die. Seconded by Commissioner Meyer and
carried.
The Commission then rec.onvened for the purpose of organization.
The City Clerk then administered the oath of office to Commissioner-Elect Julian L.
Stenstrom, who signed the oath and acceptance of office and was seated as Commissioner of the
City of Sanford, Florida, for a three-year term.
The Chairman then presented to Thomas S.. McDonald an engraved silver tray in appre-
ciation of his past service as City Commissioner of the City of Sanford.
Commissioner Stenstrom moved to appoint Commissioner Meyer to serve as a member of
the Sanford Industrial Commission as a replacement of Mr. McDonald.
After discussion, Commissioner Crapps moved to table action on the motion until the
regular City Commission Meeting of January ll, 1971, seconded by Commissioner Roberts and
carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
