The City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, met in special session at the
City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, at 12:00 o'clock noon, December 8, 1971, for the
purpose of canvassing the Election Returns of the Municipal General Election held on December 7,
1971. ~
Present: Mayor-Commissioner Lee P. Moore
Commissioner James H. Crapps
Commissioner Gordon T 'Meyer
Commissioner W. Vincent Roberts
Commissioner Julian L. Stenstrom
City Manager W. E. Knowles
City Clerk H. N. Tamm, Jr.
Absent: City Attorney W. C. Hutchison, Jr.
Police Chief Ben E. Butler
The Chairman called the meeting into session to canvass the returns of the Municipal
Election held on December 7, 1971, for the purPSse of electing two City Commissioners for a.
term of office of three years, commencing on the first Tuesday after,the,.first.~Monday in
January, 1972, and on the question of approval of a bond issue, for drainage purposes.
Returns made by the Clerk and Inspectors of the election were examined and. the ab-
sentee ballots opendd and examined by the City Clerk and the City Commission and recorded,
as follows:

Commissioner Meyer then moved that the returns of the Clerk and Inspectors of the
Municipal General Election held December 7, 1971, be accepted and the absentee ballots be
approved as recorded. Seconded by Commissioner Stenstro~and carried.
The Commission noted that a majority of votes was not cast for any candidate for the
office of City Commissioner, Group 1, nor was a majority of votes cast for any candidate for
the office of City Commissioner, Group 2, and Commissioner Meyer moved to authorize the City
Clerk to proceed with the necessary requirements for holding a run-off general election on

December 21, 1971, as set forth in Section 164 of the City Charter, 'as amended. Seconded by
Commissioner Stenstrom and carried.
On motion of Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Commissioner Stenstrom and carried,
the Clerk and Inspectors working the 1971 Municipal General Election were authorized to be
paid at the rate of $1.60 per hour, and as many as necessary, authorized to serve for the
run-off general election.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
