Listed below is the status of projects reviewed by the board during the June 2012 meeting. The board must
determine if the work is in compliance with the approved CofAs.
115 S. Laurel Avenue
Item: The board approved the request to construct a 900 square foot storage building behind the existing building.
Status: The owner obtained a permit and the building is under construction.
621 S. Oak Avenue
Item: The boardapproved the request to remove two columns on west elevation, repair/replace two remaining
columns, and replace of the existing transom window above the front door.
Status: The columns were removed and the transom installed.
1013 S. Myrtle Avenue
Item: The board approved the request to change the exterior wall finish from wood to stucco with the condition
the building must be painted in some shade of white with the option of painting the protrusions in a
different shade of white to give it more interest.
Status: The stucco has been completed and is curing. The property has not yet been painted.

Item: The board denied the request to replace only the porch roof with 3 tab shingles to match the main roof. The
board approved the installation of architectural shingles on the porch roof only (phase 1), with the condition
that the main roof (phase 2) be re-roofed at a later date with architectural shingles, to match the new porch
roof.
Status: A roofing permit was obtained and the work completed.

Mr. Dieckhaus called the regular meeting to order at 5:30 .

Mr. Kinney moved to approve the November 14, 2012 meeting minutes. Ms. Deming seconded. Motion
carried 3-0.

Hold a Public Meeting to consider a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace a metal door, install

Mr. Kinney moved to approve a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) to replace a metal door at 314
Magnolia Avenue based on the finding that the proposed change is consistent with the purpose and intent of
Schedule S and although it does not comply with the specific design guidelines contained within Schedule S, a
provision be made that based on the fact the building is located on the alley, the building is a simple block
with exposed rafter construction, and it is a non-contributing building, the metal door replacement is approved
with the condition a decorative molding be installed in order to be consistent with structures in the area. Ms.
Deming seconded. Motion carried 3-0.

Mr. Kinney moved to deny the request. Ms. Deming seconded. Motion carried 2-1, Mr. Dieckhaus against.
After discussion, motion and second was withdrawn.
Mr. Kinney moved to table the request until January 16, 2013 to allow time for staff to research and present
additional information at the January meeting and directed staff to provide a letter to the owner’s insurance
company stating the Historic Preservation Board’s approval is imminent subject to consideration of the
appropriate roofing material.
Ms. Deming seconded. Motion carried 3-0.

Staff Reports
Ms. Dalton gave an update on the Wayfinding retrofit signs, the downtown directory kiosk sign, and 519
Palmetto Avenue.
Chairman and Board Items for Discussion
Ms. Deming asked staff for examples where the board voted against the S code due to hardship.
Mr. Dieckhaus stated Sanford Trust would like to install a sign on top of the existing street signs that say
"Historic District." Ms. Dalton stated she would check with Public Works in regards to street sign design
criteria.
