Subject: Board of Adjustments & Appeals
James Melvin, Architect, was in today and inquired about the
make up of subject board.
It appears that although the board has not been required to
make a decision in over four (4) years and its membership has
been unchanged in this period, the make up of said board is
inconsistent with Section 111.1 of the adopted Standard Building
Code which requires one (1) architect.; one (1) general contractor
or engineer; and three (3) members at large from the building

Section 5.01 (a) of the City Charter authorizes the City . 1 vtic &,
Commission to create boards as required.

To eliminate a political issue it might be appropriate to- 1)1*1‘
recommend the following amendment to the adoption of the 0✓
Standard Building Code: ( ae vo
That Section 6 -1 of Chapter 8 entitled Buildings of
the Sanford City Codes is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 6 -1 Adoption of Standard Building Code
The Standard Building Code, 1976 Edition and
Appendix "D" prepared by the Southern Building
Code Congress, is hereby adopted in its entirety
by the City with the exception of Section 111.1
thereof, which said section shall be amended to
read."
"Section 11.1.1 Appointments
The said Board shall be appointed by the Chief
Appointing Authority."
One (1) copy of same is filed in the office of
the City Clerk as a matter of permanent record
of the City, and the matters and contents
therein are made a part of this section by
reference as fully and completely as if set
forth herein, and such copy shall remain on
file in said office available for public
inspection.
