PENSION BOARD DISABILITY HEARING - SCHOENWETTER
TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2012 — 9:30 A.M.
1. Call to Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by the Chairman, Thomas Hickson. The
following members were present: Sylvester Chang, Craig Radzak and Robert Vaughn.
John Smith was excused. Also in attendance was Scott Christiansen, the Plan Attorney,
Susy Pita, Plan Administrator, the claimant, Mr. Jeffrey Schoenwetter, and his father.
2. Review Medical Information and Disability Application
Scott Christiansen began by reviewing the disability processes and procedures with
everyone. He went on to review the disability criteria detailed in the Pension Plan
Ordinance explaining that the Trustees were also going to have to determine whether
or not the disability occurred in the line of duty.
The medical records that were collected were reviewed and discussed. It was noted for
the record that Mr. Schoenwetter had a physical when he began employment with the
Fire Department and there were no health related issues at that time.
Mr. Schoenwetter indicated that he did not have any additional personal testimony to
provide to the Board.
Following some discussion, the Trustees all agreed that Dr. Coady's medical findings will
take the place of an independent medical examination, his injuries did notoccur in the
line of duty, they are total and permanent based on the medical evidence provided, and
that he can no longer render service as a firefighter.
A motion was made by Robert Vaughn that, based on the information detailed above,
to grant Mr. Schoenwetter the not -in- Tine -of -duty disability, effective April 17, 2012.
Seconded by Craig Radzak, the motion carried unanimously.
The Attorney will prepare the Order for the Chairman's signature and the Administrator
will work with the Actuary to finalize the calculations.
3. Adjournment
