HomeMy WebLinkAbout111004 rm min CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD Minutes Wednesday, November 10, 2004 6:30 PM City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Bill Gibson, Mark McCarty, Agnes Knighton, Nancy Roberts, Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Brian F. Tooley -Chief of Police, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused —Tom Carpenter and Dave Daly Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. Gibson. Police Chief Tooley introduced Officer John DiFatta and his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Officer DiFatta is one of the six motorcycle officers on the newly implemented Traffic Unit. Officer DiFatta provided information reference the motorcycle, the police motorcycle lights, and the Traffic Unit. Members present were pleased with the presentation of the motorcycle. Mr. Gibson requested Minutes of October 13, 2004 be tabled due to there not being a quorum. Old Business Members discussed the revision of the Board's By -Laws proposed by Lonnie Groot, Assistant City Attorney. By -Laws will be re- routed to Attorney Groot for additional changes. Attorney Groot will also be informed of the revised City Ordinance (June 1999) stating the Citizen's Advisory Board and its members report to the Chief of Police via the City Manager. Chief Toolev Address CAB • CABoard member Kim Bridges mailed in her resignation with regrets effective November 6, 2004. Stating she has overextended her responsibilities. A plaque will be presented to Mrs. Bridges. • Provided an explanation reference Dave Hall's suspension from the Citizen's Advisory Board. • SP.D.'s Officer David Morgenstern will host a 30 minute SGTV law enforcement segment monthly. Local law enforcement agencies will be involved. • Police Department will acquire an 18' law enforcement boat that will be received in 90 days. Boat attained through Homeland Security grant funds. • Motorcycle Unit assisted Orlando Police Department in escorting the presidential candidates. • Chief Tooley is applying for a Homeland Security grant to obtain an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for backup to the Sheriff's Office. This backup EOC is anticipated to be located at the new public safety building. This backup EOC will be inter - operable, dual functioning. New Business • Dr. Hardy -Blake commented regarding an article she saw in the newspaper reference City Manager Al Grieshaber's performance appraisal is up for review by the City Commission. Dr. Hardy -Blake suggested and the Board agreed to send a letter of support to the City Commission in behalf of Mr. Grieshaber. Motioned by Mr. McCarty, seconded by Mrs. Roberts; motion adopted. To be included in this letter of support is how responsive Mr. Grieshaber was when he attended CABoard of August 2004. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
