HomeMy WebLinkAbout040903 rm min CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD Minutes Wednesday, April 9, 2003 6:30 PM City Commission Conference Room PRESENT: Tom Carpenter, Dave Daly, Nancy Roberts, Dave Hall, Dean Ray, Brian Tooley -Chief of Police, and Gracy Posley Absent. Excused — Jim Kidd, Kim Bridges, and Dr. Brenedette Hardy -Blake Unexcused — Oscar Redden, and Juanita Harold Called to Order by Vice - Chairperson Mr. Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter requested Minutes of March 12, 2003 be tabled due to their not being a quorum. Mr. Carpenter had in attendance Tom and Peggy Everett of Santa Barbara Dr. trailer park. Mr. and Mrs. Sheik Hussain, property owners were present and in support of the Everett's. The Everette's complained of a neighbor having a large volume of traffic at his trailer. Suspected drug sales and prostitutes activity. Chief Tooley and Sgt. Collison will investigate and communicate with the Everette's. Due to their not being a quorum, the Chairperson and Vice - Chairperson election was extended to the May 14 meeting, Mr. Carpenter requested Gracy Posley, CABoard Secretary send letters to Oscar Redden and Jim Kidd (due to meetings non - attendance) regarding their intentions as Board members. Old Business Construction at School Board (Lake Mary Blvd.) – traffic flow was monitored by the Traffic Division during 4:30pm – 5 :OOpm. Unfortunately, due to this construction the flow of traffic during the hours employees leave at the end of the workday will temporarily be slowed down. Chief of Police Tooley Address CAB —Gave an overview of touring Winter Parks new public safety facility 90% completed and the similarities of building spatial needs for Sanford's new public safety facility. Chief Tooley emphasized the use of the CABoard's involvement and contact with the community concerning Sanford's new facility. CABoard members inquired, Chief Tooley advised members the City Commission does support a new public safety complex. Chief Tooley also commented on funding and cost to tax payers of a new a facility. — Arrangements are being completed to open a sub - station at the Mall (west side between Sears and Burdines lower level. — Commented on SPD providing (1) officer and (1) community service officer to City Hall's security regarding Homeland Security Threat Level Orange (High). Suggested to Interim City Manager if Level Orange persists, security guard services should be considered. — Dynamic Entry provides SWAT equipment. The company will utilize Sanford PD's Emergency Services Unit (April 12) to film an advertisement commercial. In addition to this being a remarkable training day for Sanford's ESU, SPD will receive all emergency equipment used this day complimentary. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm.
