PRESENT: Oscar Redden, Tom Carpenter, Nancy Roberts, Brian Tooley, Police
Chief, and Gracy Posley
Absent: Unexcused - Manuel Acevedo - Atty., Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Dave
Hall, Jim Kidd, and Dean Ray
Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. Redden. Due to there not being a quorum, the
October 10 and November 14 Minutes were tabled for the January 2002 meeting.
Police Chief Toolev Address CAB
Police Chief Tooley informed members of an upcoming anticipated 5 weeks Bike Patrol
- Operation Ride -Along Program being instructed by Officer Gary Johnson. Citizens
completing this program will be eligible to ride bike patrol with an officer under the
guidelines of the program.
Police Chief Tooley and staff met (12/13/01) with concerned citizens of George Town
regarding continual problems with drug sales, loitering, and loud parties in the
neighborhood. The citizens were eager and welcomed the Police Department's
assistance in getting these issues resolved. The meeting ended with assuring results.
The Police Department's staffing status is regularly remaining dose to 100 %. This is
due to improved pay, benefits, and better quality applicants.
K9 Mako was retired 12/10/01 to handler Officer Robbie Shull. Mako is being replaced
by a K9 donated to the Police Department by the Fratemal Order of Police and
contributions from local businesses.
On 12/10/01, City Commission approved the Sanford Airport Authority to provide an
airport bomb dog, training for the K9 handler (police sergeant), and a leased vehicle to
the police department. The bomb dog will be crossed trained in bombs and patrol; no
drugs.
Mandatory 8 hours block training upcoming in January 2002. Training will consist of
firearms, safe and legal traffic stops (SALTS), defensive tactics, and active shooter
simulation. Active shooter training was initiated due to Columbine High disaster.
Downtown Old Library is close to becoming a police substation. Main Street and the
Police Department will share the building. Main Street will occupy the building initially.

—Mrs. Roberts commented to Police Chief Tooley re prostitutes on Sanford Ave. being
regular. Police Chief Tooley advised this problem and area (3` -5 St. /Sanford Ave.) is
under operation regularly, and arrests are made often of the prostitutes and their
solicitors. Prostitutes arrested in Exclusionary Zones (assigned by the police
department/judge) for such activity are prohibited from occupying these locations
subsequent to an arrest. The judge can only approve visitation to these locations
following an arrest.
—Mr. Redden requested letters be sent to members re irregular attendance. Members
present discussed CAB publicity and recruitment.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
