Public Safety Complex 815 Historic Goldsboro Blvd., Sanford, Florida PRESENT: Joe Torresin, John Wright, Betty Jack, Katheryn Alexander, Carsandra Buie, Richard Myers — Interim Police Chief and Gracy Posley Absent: Nancy P Abs y lmieri a Audience: Sanford Citizens and Sanford Police Staff Called to Order by Mr. Torresin, Vice - Chairperson. • Commented re H. Mausser has acquired an injury that will require extended rehab. Ms. Mausser submitted her resignation from CABoard effective September 2, 2012. ■ Requested the Minutes of July 11, 2012 be approved if there were no changes. Motion was made by Mrs. Alexander, seconded by Mr. Wright. Minutes were approved as written. Interim Chief Myers 1. August 7 National Night Out which reminds citizens to stay on guard against crime and drugs in their neighborhoods was great, in lieu of the torrential rains. Citizens, neighborhoods and businesses that partnered with the police enjoyed a great event in also strengthening our communities. 2. Reaccreditation on -site of July 10 — July 12 where assessors inspected and assessed everything at SP.D. revealed only minor issues; the brief results are very encouraging. SP.D. will be seeking reaccreditation approval at the September 27 approval hearing in Sarasota. Ms. Buie inquired, Chief Myers explained the Florida accreditation (CALEA) and the national accreditation process. 3. Encourage by S.P.D.'s new pilot program, Community Awareness Team (CAT). This Team allows officers not to be too fixed to their radio. This permits the officers to be more flexible and available to their assignment of talking one -on -one with citizens, residents, problem solving and relationship building. The CATeam is assigned to two specific areas, Historic Goldsboro and Downtown/Historic district. Chief Myers and staff have communicated information to the City Attorney in drafting a panhandling ordinance and to offer a range of choices to the City Commission. Mr. Torresin Commented shouldn't the legislature write such an ordinance? Chief Myers stated he and police staff provides the City Attorney input to better draft City ordinance(s). Ms. Buie inquired, Chief Myers responded residents are getting to know the officers by way of the officers walking the neighborhood, distributing their business cards and initiating neighborhood watches. 4. A company has been selected regarding the Sanford Police Department's promotional process for positions of sergeants and above; critical skills will be identified. 5. There was discussion at the September 10 City Commission meeting regarding the selection process of all City boards. Chief Myers invited CABoard members' feedback reference defining the CABoard's purpose. Citizen Participation - Comments and input pertaining to matters which the Chief of Police /Sanford Police Department has jurisdiction or control. Questions directed to the Chief of Police may also be referred to Police Staff to be answered within a reasonable period of time during or following the meeting. ■Mrs. Doughty inquired, Chief Myers responded to the number of officers assigned to the Sheriff's Office. These officers are assigned to the multi- agency task force. Mrs. Doughty inquired, Chief Myers responded he has hired approximately five officers as Sanford's Interim Police Chief. •Mrs. Alexander Has concerns regarding the 8 Street area. Appropriate staff will be notified to make contact with Mrs. Alexander. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M. inutes prepared by Gracy Posley, CABoard Secretary.
