Persimmon Ave., Sanford, Florida PRESENT: Helen Mausser, Joe Torresin, Steve Chusmir, Carsandra Buie, Katheryn Alexander, Trace Trylko, Steve Esler, John Wright, Bill Lee - Police Chief and Gracy Posley Absent: Betty Jack Audience: A. McCollough, P. Doughty, O. Redden, R. O'Neal, Community Residents, SPD Volunteers, SPD Staff, City Commissioner V. Williams and City Manager Bonaparte Called to Order by Ms. Mausser. Ms. Mausser welcomed and thanked all present for attending the meeting. Ms. Mausser requested the Minutes of September 14, 2011 be approved if there were no changes. Motion was made; Minutes were approved as written. CABoard members and SPD Staff introduced themselves to the audience. Chief Lee explained that this meeting was the quarterly on- the -road district meeting for District 2. And one of the Board's purposes is to address the interests and concerns of the citizens. Chief Lee welcomed City Commissioner Williams and City Manager Bonaparte to the meeting. Old Business • Inv. Pillen provided an update re prostitution and prostitution arrests in identified areas of the City. Chief Lee Address CAB ■ Provided an update on the homeless matter in Sanford. The City has drafted an ordinance re aggressive panhandling. Would like to identify available sources for the homeless. It is more cost effective to get the homeless the service and help that is needed. • Inv. Eldridge commented on the use/benefits of the license plate reader. The LPR is a specialized system consisting of equipment designed to read, store, and check license plates. Equipment passively reads the license plates of moving or parked motor vehicles. ■ Mr. Bonaparte thanked citizens for their involvement in the community. Commented we are doing ok, but we can do better. New Business ■ Questions and answers were opened to the audience. Citizens from the audience questions and concerns were addressed by Chief Lee and SPD Staff. ■ Resident in the area of 16 St./Mulberry Ave. and Goldsboro Elementary school expressed low visibility of police officers in her area. ■ (O. Redden) On 13 St. between Mulberry Ave. and Shepherd Ave. citizens are doing as they please. (Chief Lee) We will increase patrol of the area. Requested resident when seeing suspected criminal activity to please call. Mr. Redden directed to Commissioner Williams, the use of Block Grant funds for the Goldsboro area. (Commissioner Williams) There are funds that were received last year that have not been used. Citizen's Advisory Board October 12, 2011 Page 2 of 2 ■ Mrs. O'Neal of 6th St. made complaint of a recent burglary /theft of a 60" TV at her home and it being days before she received a call from the investigator. (Chief Lee) Not happy with the lack of follow -up, if the investigator delayed making contact with Mrs. O'Neal. Lt. Harden took Mrs. O'Neal contact information. (Chief Lee) Stressed the importance of having/providing serial numbers regarding stolen items and the value of neighborhood cooperation. Mrs. O'Neal commented re her difficult neighbors. ■ (B. Henderson) Requested officers monitor the back parking lot and William Clark apartments area; teens are busy in that location. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
