PRESENT: Helen Mausser, Katheryn Alexander, Betty Jack, Joe Torresin, Steve Chusmir, Steve Esler,
Carsandra Buie, Bill Lee- Police Chief and Gracy Posley
Absent: Trace Trylko and John Wright
Audience: A. McCollough, P. Doughty, A. Thomas and SPD Volunteers
Called to Order by Ms. Mausser. Ms. Mausser requested the Minutes of March 9, 2011 be approved if there
were no changes. Motioned by Mrs. Alexander, seconded by Mr. Esler the Minutes were approved as written.
Chief Lee Address CAB
Chief provided an overview of his family, education and nearly thirty years career history.
■ Has a commitment to be attentive to the community
■ Accepts and will continue the community policing concept and reorg set into place on April 2, 2011 for the
Police Department. A further goal is to get officers out of the vehicles to become more effective with citizens
and the community
■ Officers are to honor one another and their profession in a manner that fosters respect from the community
and our peers.
New Business
■ (Mr. Torresin) Inquired re mother on the school bus incident at Sanford Middle School. Deems officers'
actions could have been different. Chief Lee will follow up.
Inquired if Chief Lee was an instructor at Seminole State College? Chief Lee has been an adjunct instructor at
SSC for twenty years. Education and training is important. Will take advantage of SSC's training facility for
SPD officers.
■ (Mr. Esler) Inquired re Citizen's Advisory Board's goals /role. Chief Lee commented CAB being a sounding
Board possibly for use of force reviews and fact finding on the functions of similar advisory boards.
■ (Ms. Buie) Inquired re Chief Lee's plans for SPD. Chief Lee will be doing aggressive listening. Is familiar
with the community policing concept put in place by Chief Harriett. Is aware that this concept is effective. Will
observe the strengths and weaknesses of all employees; with efforts to minimize weaknesses. Chief enjoys
being a servant/manager; has a leadership, management style.
Will look into the Field Training Officer program for officers to be complete for road patrol.
■ (P. Doughty) Stated a motorcyclist is a speeder on her street, 500 block of Grandview Ave.
■ (Ms. Jack) Stated there are speeders in her area, Glenway Dr. between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
■ (Ms. Alexander) Inquired re fireworks recently in her neighborhood during night hours. Lieutenant Taylor
commented re a recent house burglary where professional fireworks were stolen.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
