Motioned by Ms. Buie, seconded by Mr. Esler the Minutes were approved as written. Chief Harriett Address CAB ■Distributed and explained the six -page plan for Reengineering Sanford Police Department Services. This model provides a more defined community policing involving seventeen listed objectives. Officers will be able to have ownership in their assigned neighborhood. Officers will not be made to work, but allowed to work. Community policing is being aggressive toward crime and seeks to engage a community that will cooperate with police and deprive the criminal of their anonymity. CABoard responded favorably to the concept of a City- wide community policing theme. (Mr. Chusmir) Inquired re reengineering plan and the new Police Chiefs undertaking. (Chief) Since 1994 this community policing plan has been effective for the Sheriff's Office. Other agencies may have SPD's philosophy, but not SPD's structure. It is anticipated a progressive administrator will embrace the plan. ■ Met with all six police Lieutenants today, February 9 re the reengineering, reorg plan. Change properly explained is better accepted. ■ Concluded 1 on 1 interviews with all SPD small groups and /or individual employees. New Business Questions and answers were opened to the audience. ■ (Ms. Buie) Inquired re Justin Collison case. (Chief) The investigation continues along with a forty -five day extension by the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Office due to a number of subjects and witnesses involved. ■ (Citizen) Inquired re thefts in the Historic District. (Chief) This matter is being addressed. Police Administration must be creative with personnel and overtime. New objectives in the reengineering plan will assist in crime prevention and awareness. We all must be involved in taking steps to make it harder for the criminal. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8 P.M. Minutes prepared by Gracy Posley, CABoard Secretary.
