Wednesday, December 8, 2010 6:30 P.M.
Police and Fire Headquarters
PRESENT: Helen Mausser, Joe Torresin, Betty Jack, Trace Trylko, John Wright, Steve Esler,
Carsandra Buie, Brian Tooley- Police Chief and Gracy Posley
Absent: Steve Chusmir and Katheryn Alexander
Audience: Lt. M. Taylor, Sgt. Morgenstern, P. Dougherty and A. McCollough
Called to Order by Ms. Mausser. Ms. Mausser requested the Minutes of November 10, 2010 be approved if
there were no changes. Motioned by Mr. Torresin, seconded by Mr. Esler the Minutes were approved as written.
New Board member Carsandra Buie introduced herself. Attorney Buie has been practicing law for fifteen years.
Old Business
Mr. Torresin enjoyed his Ride Along with SP.D. Commented it is interesting to see how quickly officers must
change hats.
Community Policing will initiate CPTED (community protection through environment design) with
Ms. R. Arnold re increase of thefts in her neighborhood, 3300 block of S. Park Ave.
Chief Tooley Address CAB
■ Distributed SPD hand fans
• January 10 new Mayor and City Commissioner will be sworn-in
• City Hall will be closed December 23` — January 2, 2011
■ Arbitration was held today, December 8 re Officer Bowen who was dismissed one year ago re inappropriate
MCT messages. Hearing will reconvene January 2011
■ Police Chief process is moving forward. Consultants estimate new Police Chief to be hired by mid February.
Mr. Esler, Mr. Wright and Mr. Torresin did speak with the consultant.
New Business
■ Mr. Torresin inquired re Street Crimes Unit. Chief Tooley commented with a slight reorg this Unit is now
under the Special Operations supervisor.
■ Mr. Torresin inquired re Christmas Parade route and 1 Street being closed for future parades. Chief Tooley
explained the City's committee (SERC) which review and approve all City events.
■ Mr. Torresin inquired re anti - bullying at schools. He was directed to speak with Sgt. Morgenstern.
N MI. Trylko stated SACSON put together a cold shelter plan. Rescue Outreach will be a main contact for the
homeless to escape the upcoming cold temperatures.
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M. followed by touring the Police and Fire
Headquarters.
