City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Mark McCarty, Katheryn Alexander, Agnes Knighton, Helen Mausser, Brian Tooley- Police Chief and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Betty Jack, David Daly, Nancy Roberts and Mark Russi Audience: Mrs. Anna McCollough Called to Order by Mr. McCarty. Mr. McCarty requested the Minutes of August 13 and Notes of September 10, 2008 be tabled due to there not being a quorum. Chief Tooley Address CAB ■ SPD Awards Program held Tuesday, September 16 6:30 p.m. at the Sanford Civic Center went well. Lester and Anna McCollough received an honorary award. Mrs. Mausser and Mrs. Alexander also attended. • The City has implemented a gas surcharge policy effective October 4, 2008 for all City employees with take - home vehicles. Employees will be assessed an automatically deducted surcharge to defray fuel costs ranging from $10. to $75. bi- weekly. ■ SPD's 2008/09 Budget is $13.2 million. Items affected due to budget cuts are training, travel, promotional activities, police vehicles, etc. • Public Safety Complex changed from three floors to two floors. This change brought about a better floor plan and a savings of $750 thousand. Regarding public safety, Chief Tooley commented the Sanford Fire Department located at French Avenue /15 Street is the busiest fire department in central Florida. ■ Visited Pastor Ron Merthie's church, New Life Word Center at 13 Street and Park Avenue on October 5 regarding his 25 years as pastor and attaining his doctorates degree. ■ SPD will undergo a revised reorg effective October 18 to better serve the citizens. ■ Discussed Let's Work Together to Avoid Becoming A Sanford Crime Statistic, Sanford Herald, October 8th news article from a citizen. Chief Tooley contacted the citizen and thanked her for the article. The economy and poverty is affecting crime allover. New Business (Mrs. Alexander) — Mentioned drug selling in the area of Mangoustine Avenue /14 Street . There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
