City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Mark McCarty, Nancy Roberts, Agnes Knighton, Helen Mausser, Sonya Banner, Mark Russi, David Daly, Brian Tooley — Police Chief and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Betty Jack, Tom Carpenter, and Dr. Brenedette Hardy -Blake Audience: Anna McCollough Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. McCarty. Mr. McCarty requested the Minutes of January 10, 2007 be adopted if there were no changes. Motioned by Mrs. Banner, seconded by Mrs. Roberts; Minutes were approved as written. Chief Tooley Address CAB • February 26 — provided City Commission SPD Status Report. Miss Posley will provide the report to CAB members • March 12 — Laser shoot demo at City Commission • Farmers Market — 1 St /Palmetto Ave (Saturdays 9 a.m.) is a big hit •Property Tax Reform (cut in services) — flyer (via City Manager Yehl's office) distributed to members present re notification to Governor Crist. Stating the City will be forced to reduce essential services" if proposed property tax reform is enacted by the State • Lieutenant J. McAuliffe represented the City of Sanford Police Department in Tallahassee during March 5th week as a subject matter expert regarding the investigations section rewrite of the police academy curriculum ■ Sergeants J. Santiago and P. Jankowski graduated February 16, 2007 from the Southern Police Institute (attended two weeks, off two weeks). Chief Tooley requires all SPD lieutenants and sergeants desiring to advance their management careers to complete this comprehensive course ■ Sergeant Ciesla attended the disaster preparedness statewide task force update on March 14 Each team will consist of thirty officers, self - contained with food, cooking supplies, bedding, air conditioning, water, etc. regarding disasters. Preparation time is approximately five to six hours City of Oviedo will be purchasing disaster sirens to notify the public re urgent disasters. Chief Tooley would like such sirens to be purchased throughout the county. ' Chief Tooley and Deputy Chief Presley are meeting regularly with patrol officers working as a team in their community service areas (CSAs), day and night shift. Email groups have been set up for CSA communications. In lieu of "what's going on on the shift ", officers will discuss "what's going on in their CSA" ■ Sanford ministerial pastors (approximately twenty -five) prayed on the public safety property (W. 13 St.). Prayer for the City to receive the property, referendum to pass, and the safety of police officers and firefighters.
