City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Mark McCarty, Nancy Roberts, Helen Mausser, Sonya Banner, Tom Carpenter, Betty Jack, Mark Russi, Jerry Hargrett- Police Captain, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Agnes Knighton, and David Daly Audience: Lester and Anna McCollough (Hidden Lakes) Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. McCarty. Mr. McCarty requested the Minutes of June 14, 2006 be adopted if there were no changes. Motioned by Mr. McCarty, seconded by Mrs. Roberts; Minutes were approved as written. Captain Hargrett Address CAB • Special Thanks to Helen Mausser in assisting Inv. Troy MacDonald re Hidden Lakes neighborhood get - together July 13 which was productive and successful. Inv. MacDonald provided security tips, preventative measures, and answered questions of concern. ■ SPD's website is in the process of being updated. Nancy Roberts' (PD's Website Committee) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are being worked into these updates. New crime analyst Candace Patterson is a primary contact. "'Officers will be receiving 22 new Chevys to add to the fleet the week of August 15 ■ SPD's Emergency Service Unit (ESU) attended intense training at Camp Blanding, Jacksonville the week of July 24th. The Unit's training was dynamic and necessary in keeping current on tactics and proficiency skills. The Unit conducted tactical training emphasizing high risk entries, hostage rescue, barricaded subjects, and active shooter situations in day and night operations. This training is exciting to watch. ■ Sergeants Golden & Irvin are a part of the first graduating class of the City's Effective Supervisory Practices program taught by City department heads. Sixteen participants in the 12 -week program graduated August 4th Supervisors participating in such training make managers more effective and efficient. Chief Tooley taught the subject Managing Change Effectively. ■ Invited CAB members to participate in SPD's Ride Along program. New Business • Mr. McCarty inquired re the 13 St. property for the public safety building. Captain Hargrett explained the status of the State initiating the procedure to appropriately donate the land to the City. Mr. Carpenter commented re floating bonds and taxes being raised regarding the construction of the public safety building. Captain Hargrett stated proper marketing will also be required. E MT. McCarty stated he saw Chief McCoy (Orlando Police Department) on the news re 37 murders currently in Orlando that are mainly drug related. Mr. McCarty inquired of Sanford's crime /murder status. Captain Hargrett commented re Sanford's reverse sting operations. Stated drugs and prostitution crimes are intertwined. CAB Minutes August 9, 2006 Page 2 of 2 ■ Mrs. Banner inquired re two sexual predators in Mayfair Oaks and Celery Lakes. One sexual predator lives across from a park. Captain Hargrett will have an investigator contact Mrs. Banner. Mrs. Banner and her son have had two good encounters with Officer Spann. She complimented the officer's professionalism. ■ Mrs. Mausser is in need of police assistance re residents /visitors at 101 Oakridge Ct. parking in front of the mailbox cluster. This is a constant problem for no -mail delivery. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:05 P.M. Minutes prepared by Gracy Posley, CABoard Secretary.
