Tooley -Chief of Police, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Tom Carpenter, David Daly and Betty Jack Audience: Lester and Anna McCollough (Hidden Lakes) Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. McCarty. Mr. McCarty requested the Minutes of January 1 1 th and February 8 2006 be adopted if there were no changes. Motioned by Mrs. Mausser, seconded by Mrs. Knighton; Minutes were approved as written. Chief Tooley Address CAB • Curnertha Ammons, fourteen years of age was stabbed to death seventeen years ago. The Sanford Police Department's Cold Case Unit has resolved this case. The aunt and uncle plead guilty; sentenced to fifteen years in prison. • Provided an SP.D. staffing presentation at the City Commission meeting of February 13 The Sanford Herald ran an article on February 19 re SP.D. receiving ten police officers per year for the next five years. The City Commission agrees with the principle and improving the level of service. Chief Tooley commented re P.D. attrition, Sanford police officers are continually busy, the mortgage assistance program for Sanford officers and other benefits provided to the officers. • Architect Designs Group provided a conceptual site presentation on February 27 re the public safety complex. Some locations ruled out are K -Mart not large enough for the Fire Department, Heilig Meyers and old Scotty's too small. • The location being considered for the public safety complex is the northwest corner of 18 St. This property was purchased in 1994. Chief Tooley, Fire Chief Ransom, City Manager Yehl and others met with 18 St. residents on March 12 to inform and listen to the residents re the building. Chief Tooley commented a construction manager and marketing technician will be needed re this project. • www.sanfordbuzz.blogspot.com created by Dan Ping is a website re Sanford issues • March 12 SP.D.'s Crisis Negotiation and Emergency Services Unit (ESU) utilized Sanford Middle School as a training replica for a crisis at a school. New Business • Mr. McCarty inquired if Downtown Sanford would be having Mardi Gra this year? Chief Tooley responded there will not be one. • Mr. McCarty commented re downtown Orlando's Nazi demonstration of March 4 Inquired, "what would SP.D. do with a similar demonstration "? Chief Tooley responded, he must legally allow the demonstration, SP.D. would prepare well and utilize other agencies. Chief Tooley stated Chief McCoy, Orlando Police Department handled the matter well. He also contacted community leaders and pastors. Mr. McCarty inquired re the cost of such a demonstration. CAB Minutes March 8, 2006 Page 2 of 2 ■Mrs. Mausser commented re neighbors (Hidden Lakes) stated they saw on the local news where Sanford was having many burglary problems. Chief Tooley commented the story on the news was regarding 18 St. /Park Ave. where a resident stated he had a video of a burglary. When researched re burglaries for that area, only three reports were founded. There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m. Minutes prepared by Gracy Posley, CABoard Secretary.
