HomeMy WebLinkAbout121405 rm min CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD Minutes Wednesday, December 14, 2005 6:30 PM City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Mark McCarty, Nancy Roberts, Helen Mausser, Sonja Banner, David Daly, Agnes Knighton, Mark Russi, Brian F. Tooley -Chief of Police, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused —Dr. Brenedette Hardy - Blake, Tom Carpenter, and Betty Jack Audience: Lester and Anna McCollough (Hidden Lakes) Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. McCarty. Mr. McCarty requested the Minutes of November 9, 2005 be adopted if there were no changes. Motioned by Mrs. Mausser, seconded by Mr. Daly; Minutes were approved as written. Police Chief Tooley and Mr. McCarty welcomed new Board member Mark Russi. Mr. Russi a Sanfordite, the current principal of Sanford Middle School, former assistant principal of Jackson Heights Middle School, and has coached girls in youth basketball introduced himself to Board members present. Chief Tooley Address CAB • Hidden Lakes has been added to the traffic enforcement list. • Explained the newspaper article re Officer K. Trezise who was dismissed by Police Chief Tooley (several months ago). City Manager S. Yehl granted Officer Trezise his position back. The community was not pleased with Mr. Yehl's decision. Officer Trezise has resigned from his SPD police officer position. Police Chief Tooley explained the officer's previous discipline history. • Drafting letter to all local police chiefs re stringent sentencing for juvenile career criminals (car thefts). Will pursue the highest discipline possible. Also, maximum supervision /ankle bracelets will be suggested. Mr. McCarty commented re car stealing psychology is being used by car thieves. A note is taped to the rear window of a driver's car, when the driver gets out to read the note, the car thief jumps in the car and flee. Police Chief Tooley commented car thefts within the City of Sanford are due to the keys being left in the vehicle. The car rentals are notorious for leaving keys in vehicles. • Police Chief Tooley and staff attended Seminole Community College's police academy graduation December 7 Lt. D. Scott, Sgt. R. Irvin, and Ofr. N. Price are Drill Instructors at the academy. They assist in SPD receiving choice applicants. New Business • Mrs. Mausser thanked and appreciates the Sanford Police Department's participation in the Hidden Lakes neighborhood watch meeting of December 10, 2005. • Mrs. Banner inquired re air conditioning units stolen from Millennium Middle School a few months ago. Asked if police officers patrolled the school during night hours? Police Chief Tooley stated the schools are regularly patrolled. Mrs. Banner inquired if police officers had the gate code to Calabria Springs Cove Rd. subdivision which consists of thirty -seven homes. Police Chief Tooley to look into. • Mr. McCarty inquired re the public safety complex referendum. Police Chief Tooley stated Architect Designs Group has been approved by the City Commission to prepare the design of the structure. CAB Minutes December 14, 2005 Page 2 of 2 ■Mrs. Roberts inquired re why did a friend of hers receive a citation during the Tour of Homes? In the area of 1 St. and Palmetto Ave. parking lot.
