HomeMy WebLinkAbout041305 rm min CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD Minutes Wednesday, April 13, 2005 6:30 PM City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Bill Gibson, Nancy Roberts, Mark McCarty, Betty Jack, Helen Mausser, Tom Carpenter, David Daly, Agnes Knighton, Brian Tooley - Chief of Police, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Dr. Brenedette Hardy -Blake Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. Gibson. Mr. Gibson requested Minutes of February 9 and March 9 be adopted if there we no changes. Motioned by Mr. Daly, seconded; Minutes were approved. Election Mr. Gibson opened the floor for Chairperson nominations; there were no nominations. Mrs. Roberts motioned for Mr. Gibson to remain as the Chairperson, he accepted. Seconded by Mrs. Mausser, motion was accepted. Mr. Gibson opened the floor for Vice - Chairperson nominations; there were no nominations Mr. Gibson motioned for Mr. McCarty to remain as the Vice - Chairperson, he accepted. Seconded by Mr. Daly, motion was accepted. Old Business Mr. Gibson commented School Resource Officer Dawkins is doing an awesome job at Sanford Middle School due to the temporary replacement of Sgt. Johns' heart attack. Police Chief Tooley also shared information regarding Officer M. Bernosky's medical condition of blood clots on his lungs due to a broken ankle injury while on duty. Chief Tooley Address CAB Distributed accreditation mugs to Board members. SPD Awards program will be held April 14, 6 pm at the Civic Center. Eight volunteers scheduled to graduate from the Citizens on Patrol academy April 28. SPD has advertisement on the SGTV channel regarding the volunteer program and the police department's law enforcement segment called Seminole Blue. ■Police Chief Tooley is initiating a management fitness program (healthy eating and works outs) to enhance the condition of members, further signifying leading by example. RiverWalk II Grandopening to be held May 7. Seven Habits of Effective Law Enforcement held March 16 at the New Tribes Mission was a great success. Approximately 150 were in attendance from the local law enforcement agencies. /Shared with Board members City Manager Grieshaber's contract was not renewed by the City Commission with a 3 -2 vote. Mr. Grieshaber's resignation is effective April 15 and he will receive pay through November 2005. Assistant City Attorney L. Groot will be the Acting City Manager for approximately two weeks. Mr. V. Eugene Miller, very qualified, will become the Interim City Manager. Police Chief Tooley will immediately communicate with CAB Minutes April 13, 2005 Page2of2 the interim city manager regarding current and future SPD projects. A new public safety building will definitely be mentioned. Mr. Carpenter stated Mr. Grieshaber executed one -on -one negotiations with Tallahassee regarding the environmental issues of the property (W. 13th St. /Lake Ave.) for the new public safety complex. Adding a new facility should be a critical priority, it affects employees' moral. Mr. Daly inquired if the property is polluted, how much will the State pay toward cleanup expenses? Mr. Carpenter, the cost continues to increase. Mr. McCarty suggested to ensure it not be mandated for the City of Sanford to must build a police department on the property with the State of Florida. ►Police Chief Tooley commented regarding Commissioner Art Woodruff and Bernard Mitchell's election disagreement that involves a written statement from Police Chief Tooley. Police Chief Tooley stated he remains neutral regarding this matter. New Business None. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm.
