HomeMy WebLinkAbout011205 rm min CITIZEN'S ADVISORY BOARD Minutes Wednesday, January 12, 2005 6:30 PM City Commission Chambers PRESENT: Bill Gibson, Tom Carpenter, Mark McCarty, David Daly, Agnes Knighton, Nancy Roberts, Jerry Hargrett - Captain, and Gracy Posley Absent: Excused — Dr. Brenedette Hardy -Blake Called to Order by Chairperson Mr. Gibson. Captain Hargrett introduced Lt. D. DelRosso and Officer T. Butler of the Sanford Police Department's Emergency Services Unit. Lt. DelRosso explained the concept of the ESU. He proposed a plan to Police Chief Tooley in 2002 to have a 14 person team for tactical situations. Officers receive training once per month and are on -call 24 hours per day with lateral duties. The officers provided an overview of the ESU in detail; followed by Board members being allowed to view and handle ESU equipment stowed in the ESU vehicle. Captain Hargrett emphasized to be an ESU member; individuals must be physically fit who are also capable of making rapid, sound decisions during emergency situations. Intellect and psychologicals are necessary, the try-outs are extremely rigorous. Conditions have escalated to a menacing height when the ESU is called in. Per Captain Hargrett, "to watch these guys is poetry in motion ". Mr. Gibson commented it is reassuring to see the level of readiness of the Emergency Services Unit. The better the police department is equipped, the better the City will be able to attract citizens. New Business Miss Posley stated David Hall provided Police Chief Tooley a verbal resignation 12/20/04. Mr. Gibson requested Minutes of October 13, November 10 and December 8, 2004 be adopted if there were no changes. Minutes were adopted. Old Business • revised By -Laws tabled Capt. Jerry Hargrett Address CAB • During the holidays, all lieutenants were tasked to develop a community policing project. The assignment was successful and beneficial to families; food and gifts were provided. Shop With A Cop provided $100. per child to 100 children. Winn Dixie provided (15) $30. gift certificates. Mr. Gibson commented the since of community helps to bridge the community. • SPD Accreditation Commission Review scheduled 2/9/05 in Kissimmee.
