North Park Avenue
Sanford, Florida 32771
Dear Sirs:
The Electronics Division of General Dynamics has been awarded a con-
tract by the Department of Transportation for the design and pro-
duction of advanced new Airport Surveillance Radars (ASR -8) for the
Federal Aviation Agency.
In connection with the above it is our intent to establish a systems
test facility at our plant at 2340 W. 25th Street in Sanford. This
facility will require the erection of a standard FAA tower thirty -
seven (37) feet in height. Upon this tower will be mounted a re-
flector antenna approximately eleven (11) foot high by eighteen (18)
foot wide. Mounted on each corner of the tower, at the thirty -
seven foot level, will be a Lightning Air Terminal twenty -one (21)
feet in height, resulting in an overall height, above ground level,
of fifty -eight (58) foot.

Accordingly, g y, we respectfully request that our application for a zoning
variance meet with your full approval.
Very truly yours,
GENERAL DYNAMICS
Signed: S. L. Ackerman
Vice President and Manager
Mr. J. W. Geiger, representing General Dynamics, was present to
request consideration of a variance of 8 feet in the height require -
ments in RI -1 Zoned District at the location of 2340 W. 25th Street.
The legal description of the property being: Beg. int. S line Country
Club Rd. and E line Lake Mary Rd., run E 491.7 ft., S parallel to
railway 774.85 ft. W 440 ft., N 771.86 ft. to Beg., further known as
Parcel A30.
The Building Official reported that the Airport Manager had indicated
to him that anything under 100 feet in the above described area would
be no problem for aircraft.
After consideration, Mr. Julian moved to grant a variance of 8 feet .
in the height requirements in RI -1 District at the location of 2340
West 25th for the General Dynamics plant.
• The motion was seconded by Mr. Karns and was carried b y a unanimous
vote.
Consideration was next given the request of Mr. Norman H. Schiff,
president of Royal Line Builders, Inc., for a variance in the required
living area density for 50 one bedroom apartments. This hearing had
been continued at the special meeting on March 1, 1974, to await the
opinion of the City Attorney and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The Building Official reported the City Attorney's opinion was that
the Board of Adjustment had the authority to grant a variance pertaining
to density of living area on the 50 units,as had been requested, if
they considered it a hardship and in the public interest.
Mr. Karns reported from the Planning and Zoning Commission. A year
and a half ago the Zoning board reduced living area density in
single family dwellings from 900 to 700 sq. ft. Since they took
that action, they felt they overlooked one bedroom apartments in
MR -2 Districts; they feel it was an oversight, and in all probability
after public hearing, if there are no objections, it will be reduced
to 650 sq. ft.

• The Building Official said that Mr. Shiff has indicated that he
will wait for the change in the ordinance.
Mr. White moved that the hearing be continued on the basis that if
the new density is not approved, Mr. Schiff could come back to the
Board of Adjustment for consideration of the variance. The motion
was seconded by Mr. Julian and was carried by a unanimous vote.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
