ORDINANCE NO. 2008-4121
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA
DESIGNATING THE NEON SIGN STRUCTURE AT 1011 FRENCH
AVENUE, LEGALLY DESCRIBED AS GEORGE'S TAVERN SIGN, AS A
HISTORIC LANDMARK WITHIN THE CITY OF SANFORD, FLORIDA;
PROVIDING SEVERABILITY, CONFLICTS AND AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the sign structure located on real property bearing the address 1011 French
Avenue within the City of Sanford was erected in 1958 at said location; and
WHEREAS, the sign structure is representative of a bygone era of roadside architectural
signs designed, constructed, and illuminated; and
WHEREAS, the sign structure has historical, architectural and cultural significance to
the Sanford community and is well known as a roadside landmark; and
WHEREAS, the sign structure will be restored to its original state in compliance with
Schedule S of the Land Development Regulations of the City of Sanford; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sanford Historic Preservation Board has recommended that the
sign structure at 1011 French Avenue be designated a historic landmark;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY mE PEOPLE OF mE CITY OF
SANFORD, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The foregoing recitals (whereas clauses) are incorporated herein by reference
and adopted as legislative and administrative findings in support of the matters set forth in this
Resolution and made a part hereof
Section 2: Local Landmark Designation: That the neon sign structure owned by
Georges Tavern Inc. and Federal Heath Sign Co. LLC, located at 1101 French Avenue and
legally described as George's Tavern Sign, is hereby designated as a local historic landmark
within the City of Sanford, Florida.

Section 3: Repair and Refurbishment: That the repair and refurbishment of said neon
sign structure must be completed by October 14,2008.
Section 4: Historical Signage Designation: That a suitable historical marker as approved
by the Historic Preservation Board and its staff shall be located nearing close proximity to the
sign structure indicting that the structure has been designated an historic landmark by the City of
Sanford, Florida.
Section 5: Severability: If any section or portion of a section of this ordinance proves to
be invalid, unlawful or unconstitutional, it shall not be held to impair the validity, force or effect
of any other section or part of this ordinance.
Section 6: Conflicts: All ordinances or parts of ordinances In conflict with this
Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 7: Effective Date: This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its
passage and adoption.

City Commission of the City of Sanford, Florida, on the 11 th day of August, 2008, was posted at
the front door of the City Hall in the City of Sanford, Florida, on the 13 day of August, 2008.
