The minutes of the October 5, 2010 were reviewed and approved with one correction.
IP Mr. Lee has lived in Sanford for 12 years instead of 11.
Old Business
Ms. Clarke asked for corrections to the board member contact list. Phone numbers and
email addresses were added where necessary. Ms. Swann and Ms. Stinecipher do not
have email. Ms. Ellenburg's contact information will be sent to members so they can
notify her if they will not be attending a meeting.
The terms of Mr. Carlson and Ms. Swann have expired. Mr. Carlson has received a letter
from the City Clerk advising him he may continue to serve until replaced. Ms. Swann
has not received this letter. Ms. Ellenburg will check this with the City Clerk. An
application for the board has been received from Carole Hinshaw. If she is accepted as a
board member, she will replace Ms. Stinecipher.
Ms. Clarke said a board liaison from the City Commission has not yet been appointed.
Commissioner Woodruff was the liaison until he left the City Commission in December.
The board acknowledged the wonderful job Commissioner Woodruff did as liaison. The
board requested a letter noting Commissioner Woodruff's devoted service as liaison be
sent to the City Commission and copied to Commissioner Woodruff. The members
particularly noted his participation in meetings and his follow through on answering
questions raised at board meetings.

The board discussed the possibilities of using Facebook to promote the museum. The
museum staff cannot access social media from museum computers but the Sanford
Historical Society will be launching a Facebook page soon. The members discussed the
range of age groups using Facebook. Learning about this new kind of media is a goal for
2011.
The board was updated about the Seminole History Consortium. The group now has a
website to promote all local history organizations and historians. The next meeting of the
Consortium is in February. The group hopes to have a themed series of events to include
all local museums during the next year. Ms. Clarke said the Sanford Museum could have
someone from Celery Soup portray an historical figure during an afternoon event. She
asked if any members knew of local reenactors. Ms. Fisher suggested creating a character
to portray the Swedish community and use this to promote Ms. Kinlaw Best's upcoming
book. Ms. Clarke said a group of reenactors recently offered to set up a World War II
camp portraying the Dixie Division. The board thought this was a good idea and that
visitors would identify with this. It was suggested Ms. Clarke pursue this for late Spring
because too many events occur in the Fall. Ms. Clarke will find out more about the city
regulations for this type of event.
Ms. Clarke updated the board on the Page Jackson Cemetery Project. She advised the
board that there is a location by the sign in the entrance to the cemetery that the city
owns. Jan Henry in the Parks Department has been working with her on the location for
the memorial monument. She also mentioned it would be good to have a historical
marker placed there as well. She will look up the marker requirements for Seminole
County and for the State of Florida.
Ms. Clarke updated the board about the Fort Mellon Park memorial for Millard Hunt. A
stone bench has been purchased and will be dedicated on Arbor Day in February 2011. A
date and time will be announced and invitations will be sent to the board members. Julie
Ellenburg will provide city arborist Elizabeth Harkey with addresses and names of
Museum Board Members and will forward planned date to board members by email.
New Business
Ms. Clarke told the board about old City Hall records that the museum is inventorying.
These include Municipal Court records and city account books. She said the research
library is being reorganized to make it more accessible to the general public. She said a
concerted effort will be made this year to expand the research library about Henry
Sanford.
Ms. Clarke said she hopes to have some interns from UCF this term. .
The board set their meeting times for 2011. It was decided to continue with 4:30 PM on
the first Tuesday of the month quarterly. The remaining 2011 Board Meeting dates are
• April 5 July 5 and October 4, 2011 at 4:30 PM.
Ms. Best stated the board needed a new chairman as she had served the maximum
number of terms. After some discussion, Mr. Lee agreed to serve as chairman. Ms.
Kinlaw Best agreed to serve as vice chairman and Mr. Wright agreed to serve as
secretary. A motion was made to accept these officers. The board members unanimously
approved the new officers. The board members will be sent a list of meetings, board
members, and by -laws.
The board asked for clarification on the new city hours. Ms. Clarke said City Hall is on a
four day week and is closed on Fridays. The museum has not changed hours. The open
hours are still Tuesday — Friday 11AM -4PM and Saturday 1PM -4PM. The staff is still
available Monday through Friday for researchers and special projects.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:50PM.
