January 8, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 5:20 PM in the meeting room at the Sanford Museum.
Chairman Stinecipher introduced new board member Valada Flewellyn.
The chairman announced the chief item of business would be selection of new officers. Current
officers can not re- elected for the same position.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the October 3, 2007, minutes were approved as corrected (the spelling of Carole
Kirchhoff and Dr. Stephen Wright).
Old Business
A request was made for Board Secretary Julie Ellenburg to provide board members with an
updated address list.
50 Anniversary Projects
The board reviewed projects during the fiftieth anniversary year and the suggested goal of a
program a month. Only one program was scheduled in 2007. Charlie Carlson presented a' Weird
and Wacky Exhibition" at the Sanford Museum on October 6. Programs were suggested for 2008:
February- Valada Flewellyn to show the Goldsboro film at the local library or Dennis Marshall to
speak on Fort Mellon; March — Ed L'Heureux; April— Fred Hitt with his new book. It was also
suggested there be a Saturday showing of Sanford videos in the museum' On December 1, the
Museum was included in the Sanford Trust Tour of Homes. Approximately 111 visitors attended.
Board Vacancies
Chair Stinecipher announced that one board vacancy remains. Alicia Clarke will contact Carol
Kirchhoff, Dave Russi, Fred Hitt and Dr. Patrick Fitzgerald.

New Exhibit
The new exhibit in the Chase Gallery will open in February.
Museum Brochure
Museum staff member Brandy Wilmot is working on the brochure design with Christine Kinlaw
Best.
Collaboration with Seminole Community College
Dr. Wright reported Dr. Patrick Fitzgerald wants to meet with Ms. Clarke about ways SCC might
collaborate with the Sanford Museum. Items for discussion include converting existing museum
VHS videos to DVD; an archives of Sanford related films; existence of original raw footage used
in Sanford related productions; production of a short film for the Internet and SGTV.
Research in progress
Ms. Clarke reported Dr. William Stemper is contacting the city's oldest and prominent families to
determine what family papers they may have in order to expand the museum's archives.
Ms. Clarke has been in contact with the family of Julia Chase regarding family papers and
photographs that might be donated or copied.
Welcome Center
Ms. Clarke has discussed a Sanford Museum display with Liz Darwick, director of The Historic
Sanford Welcome Center.
Coloring Sheets
Christine Best provided completed examples of the coloring pages to be placed in holders in the
museum galleries. Charlie Carlson was the illustrator, Mrs. Best provided the text. Scavenger
hunt pages will also be placed in the galleries.
Building Expansion
Ms. Clarke reported on efforts to secure a major donor. Commissioner Art Woodruff confirmed
that the City of Sanford previously agreed to commit matching funds up to $800,000.
New Business
Election of Advisory Board Officers was held with the following officers selected:
Chair - -- Christine Kinlaw Best; Vice -Chair - -- Charlie C. Carlson; Secretary - -- Dr. Stephen
Wright.
Future meeting dates were announced: April 1, 2008; July 1, 2008; October 7, 2008; January 6,
2009.
Ms. Stinecipher was thanked for her service as Board Chair.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:37 PM.
