The minutes of the January meeting were approved. As there was no quorum for the April meeting, there were no minutes. Old Business: Election of Officers: Christine Kinlaw Best was nominated for and elected Vice - Chairman. Serena Fisher was nominated for and elected Secretary. Ms. Stinecipher updated the board on the state of the building expansion project. The Sanford Historical Society building committee is meeting with potential donors. The city's proposed budget for 2007 includes money to repair the Museum's roof. New Business: i ne Museum will be fifty years old in 2007. Ms. Clarke asked for ideas for observing the dtrtnaay. i ne Sanford Historical Society will organize events for the year. There will be a party near the museum s vtrtnaay on me seconu w,eexenu of reoruary zvu r. ms. • Stinecipher has volunteered to chair a birthday committee for the Sanford Historical Society. The committee has had one meeting. Ideas so far include asking the following to participate: civic groups, Fort Mellon era re -enactors, local musicians and local authors. The committee also decided to produce a booklet with the history of the Museum. The board discussed a student essay or art contest. It was suggested that the Sanford Historic Trust be asked if the Museum could display the homes tour art contest winners. Bettye Smith suggested the city song Sanford on the Lake, by Bob Carnie be performed at the birthday party. It was performed for years by the Sanford Male Chorus and it was adopted by the city as the official song. Ms. Clarke suggested the contributions of the Sallie Harrison Chapter of the DAR be recognized as part of the celebration. The DAR raised most of the money for the original construction of the Museum. She also suggested joining the National Anthem project during 2007 and sponsoring an anthem event. Ms. Stinecipher suggested working with the DAR on their annual essay contest. Ms. Clarke asked for help with compiling a list of those individuals and organizations that made a major contribution to the development of the Museum. The list should include SunTrust Bank and the Woman's Club since both organizations supplied storage space for the collection. Ms. Best suggested a chronology. It has been suggested that the Museum and the Sanford Historical Society place a special section in the Sanford Herald with a history of the Museum. A special brochure should also be produced. • Ms. Clarke said the Museum has been offered to the Sanford Historic Trust to use as the homes tour headquarters. Projects for 2007 were briefly discussed. Mrs. Fisher suggested linking up with the city's movies in the park program for next year. It was suggested a list be compiled of famous people from Sanford.
