There being no quorum, no official business was diseussed. The members present
commented that a note needs to added to the meeting notices requesting members to call
the Museum if they are not able to attend a meeting. The members reminded Ms. Clarke
that she needed to check with Jim Cara regarding his reappointment to the Board or to
contact the potential members suggested at the January meeting.
The Board members present decided to hold an informal brainstorming session to
develop ideas for the Museum's 50 birthday celebration in February 2007.
Mr. Carlson showed the members cartoons he had made of Henry Sanford. These could
be used in advertising and on a brochure.
It was noted that the number one priority should be a rack card for the Museum. It was
also suggested that there be a rack card with information on all three Sanford area
museums and the Zoo.
Ms. Stinecipher suggested the staff produce a promotional booklet with a history of the
• museum to be given away during the birthday year. It was also suggested the staff
contact the Sanford Herald about the possibility of having a special section in the
•
newspaper for the week of February 6, 2007.
Bench advertising was discussed. It was decided the marketing impact was not sufficient
to justify the cost.
Mr. Carlson said the Autotrain station has no signage to direct visitors to downtown and
no brochure racks. Several members said the station was in poor condition.
Mr. Carlson said the airport has high end brochure racks promoting Orlando attractions.
Ms. Clarke said she would check with Jack Dow at the airport about receiving permission
to place Museum advertising materials near the Navy exhibit in the baggage terminal.
The date for the Museum's birthday party was set for the second weekend of February.
Ms. Clarke will ask for City money to be budgeted to help fund the celebration. Local
clubs will be contacted to participate and possibly run concessions. Arbor Day will be
included in the celebration, maybe with a tree planting.
The Board discussed the need for an "Open" sign that can be seen from the street. It was
suggested to try a sandwich board on the front sidewalk or in front of the planters. A
weatherproof sign that could be hung on the door and taken in at night was also
mentioned.
• Meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.
