• Discussion followed regarding events the Museum could have for the remainder of the
50 birthday year. Saturday events were discussed. Charlie Carlson gave a preview of
his Weird & Whacky Exhibition at the Sanford Museum from noon to 4 on October 6. A
poetry reading by Valada Flewellyn is in the works for November. A November authors
day was considered but Mr. Carlson noted that November is a very popular month for
book signings and it would be difficult to find available for authors. If the Sanford
Historic Trust does not have the tour of homes, the museum will have an open house in
December. In January, the new Goldsboro film may be shown. It is hoped that a special
David Eckstein Saturday can be arranged during spring training.
New Business
Projects for 2008 were discussed.
Ms. Clarke said the museum would like to establish a relationship with Seminole
Community College and the University of Central Florida. There are many research and
internship opportunities at the museum. The museum staff would also like to have a
better understanding of the needs of students in humanities classes. They often come to
the museum with very vague requests for information. Dr. Wright offered to look into
this and to contact Dr. Patrick Fitzgerald regarding the status of SCC's film classes.
There were a number of suggestions regarding visual educational materials. It was
suggested the project to photograph historic buildings and cemeteries be continued. It
• was suggested the museum use student volunteers to make short films for SGTV and the
Internet. Ms. Ellenburg said she would find out about the National Honor Society
students at Seminole High School. Some students are required to complete 75 volunteer
hours per year. Ms. Clarke said the museum currently has one high school volunteer and
one middle school volunteer.
Local historian, Dr. William Stemper has suggested the museum seek out the city's oldest
and prominent families and determine what type of family archives exist. The goal
would be to collect or copy family documents for the museum's archives.
The Welcome Center has requested a history display. Ms. Clarke has contacted Liz
Darwick, the new director, about the installation of a display case.
Building Project
Ms. Clarke spoke to Millard Hunt regarding the building expansion project. His
committee from the Sanford Historical Society, Inc. is still seeking a major donor. The
committee will be looking into the application requirements of area foundations.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 5:15 PM at the Sanford Museum.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45PM.
