Not Present: • Serena Fisher • The meeting was called to order at 5:20pm by Chairman Grace Marie Stinecipher. The minutes of the December meeting were approved. The minutes were approved. Commissioner Art Woodruff gave an update on the conference center project. The County has rejected funding the hotel but will work with the City on a conference center. The site will be the west end of Fort Mellon Park as previously discussed. The expansion of the museum was then discussed. Board members expressed the desire to move forward with plans for the museum's expansion since the conference center plans will not be final for some time. Commissioner Woodruff said he would speak to the City Manager regarding possible pro bono design services from one of the City's consultants. The Board discussed the condition of Lake Carola. Changes to the lake will be included in the conference center plans but due to delays in that project, the Board expressed concern about the danger the lake presents to the Museum. A recent sprinkler washout has further reduced the width of the bank behind the Museum. Motion. Janice Springfield moved that the Board request, by letter to the City Commission, that the City take action on stabilizing Lake Carola before hurricane season. Seconded by Christine Best. Passed by unanimous consent. • • The Board then discussed ongoing maintenance problems at the Museum. Janice • Springfield offered to assist the Curator in researching solutions to the cracks in the lobby floor. Julie Ellenburg suggested that the tile might never have been properly sealed. The Curator was asked about problems with the roof. She explained that City Engineering was looking into the possibility of sealing the roof with a ceramic coating. None of the attempts to stop recent leaks have succeeded. Motion. Jim Cara moved that the previous motion be amended to include a request that the roof be repaired now. Seconded by Richard Packard. Passed by unanimous consent. Alicia Clarke showed the Board two recent acquisitions - an 1877 Sanford newspaper and the letters of Cornelia Hancock, assistant manager of the Sanford House Hotel. The Board discussed Sanford's 125 anniversary. Commissioner Woodruff announced that there was now a steering committee and it would be meeting on March 13th. A representative of the Sanford Historical Society will attend but the Advisory Board will only be involved as consultants. The timeline book was discussed but little progress has been made on this project. The Board discussed plans for the Riverwalk. Possible ways of tying in the Museum with the Riverwalk were discussed. Some suggestions were a second entrance, a patio across the North side, sidewalks, and changes to the North facade to make the building • more welcoming from the waterfront. • Alicia Clarke announced that the Museum would have its own website in the near future. She asked that the Board members make suggestions regarding content and appearance. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30pm. • • 5 111111 a o r- c L() NI- o \ N a (0 M (0 C } ` co _Ic o W V _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ r- 1.0 N O) 0 1- a) O 11 Co )s 00 O) N M c7 N c) a O M r C (0 0) el co M M 0) O • O \, • ~ O O O O O O I '• NI M O 0 '- (O (0 e- r' r- CO M 0) a M ( co 0)0) ('4) c0 1 O r- N M J J J J J J J J J LL LL LL LL LL LL LL LL LL N 41 0 O N 1 s- coo 0 m m M as c t 1 a a' a' as CU ( f/) o o c w a) o o o c (° c c Y c c CCS CC < U) 0 Z 5 U) c J CO CO a M c) W E = - a ' ( 1- _ 1_ J < 0 2 a) t ° c (o Y L i 10 al s,=, N as N o c Q w L N " .
