Grace Marie Stinecipher

Alicia Clarke, Curator
Absent: Jim Cara

•
In the absence of Chairman Jim Cara, the meeting was called to order by Ms. Clarke at 5:20 pm.
The first order of business being to elect a new Chairman, the floor was open to nominations.
Christine Best nominated Grace Marie Stinecipher. There being no other nominations, vote was
taken and Ms. Stinecipher was elected.
• Ms. Stinecipher introduced new members Serena Fisher and Christine Best. The new procedure
for selecting Board members was explained. Potential board members must now go before the
Sanford City Commission for an interview before they are selected.
Ms. Clarke requested that the Board review their by -laws to better reflect the original ordinance
creating the Board. There is presently some confusion regarding the length of terms allowed for
members. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
Possibilities for a new meeting room addition to the museum were discussed. Ms. Clarke gave
background on the development of the present museum building. The Board reviewed past
discussions of this matter. This project is still on hold until the conference center issue is
resolved but the Board will continue to look into possible costs and funding sources.
Highlighting historic cemeteries in Seminole County was discussed as a project for 2001. The
county museum will be publishing Bonnie Ward's book during 2001. The Board discussed the
possibility of tours of Lakeview Cemetery during Preservation Week in May.
Ms. Clarke was asked about e mail. She explained that the museum is not yet part of the City's
network, so e mail is not available. The museum is, however, included in the City's website.
The Board was asked to think about projects for Sanford's 125 birthday in 2002.
Ms. Clarke asked the Board to look for national news articles regarding Sanford's role in the
Presidential elections. The museum is seeking political ephemera regarding the recount.
• There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:10pm.
