(FS 286.0105) • • MINUTES HENRY SHELTON SANFORD MEMORIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM ADVISORY BOARD MEETING APRIL 14, 1992 Present: Myra Bales Don Vincent Robert Mann Cecil Tucker Erma Dangleman Alfreda Wallace Elizabeth Gallant Others in Attendance: Mike Kirby, Recreation & Parks Director Alicia Clarke, Curator Yvette Hartsfield, Secretary Meeting was held at the museum. Meeting was called to order at 5:20 P.M. The Chairman stated the City had officially received the Chase donation to the building project. • The Chairman reviewed items discussed at the last Design Review Committee meeting. The Chairman announced the Design Review Committee will be having a meeting on Thursday, April 16, 1992 at 5:15. During this meeting exterior finish will be discussed. The Board decided to recommend that the Design Review Committee consider a smooth finish because of the bug problem. The Curator updated the Board regarding increased projected costs for the renovation of the existing building. The Curator stated the museum will be closed during construction and the staff will be located at City Hall. Research material that the public uses often will be located at City Hall during the construction. An off -site location may have to be found for the collection during construction. The Board discussed storage sites including local banks. The Curator stated that the Vincent building needs maintenance work, termite treatment, and a new roof. The Board suggested that the Sanford Historical Society be approached for help with funding. The Curator stated the School Museum may be closing. The Board discussed purchasing items for the new museum from government surplus. • < 4 r I • Board Meeting April 14, 1992 Page 2 The Chairman asked if there were changes or deletions to the minutes of March 10, 1992. There being none, the minutes were approved by unanimous consent. The Chairman stated she will call different clubs in regard to donations of flowers and trees for the landscaping of the new museum. Mr. Kirby recommended contacting the Garden Club, Scenic Improvement Board, Sunniland, and White Rose for donations. The Curator stated that the Board needs to come up with some suggestions on a means of recognizing donors to the new building. The Curator suggested an historical marker be put at Belair recognizing the contributions of Mr. Sanford and Mr. Vilehn. The Board discussed approaching the county historical society and Centex Homes regarding this. The next meeting was set for Tuesday, May 12, 1992 at 5:15 A.M.
