This was a special meeting to discuss a request from a
citizen to install a mausoleum in the City cemetery.
Howard Jeffries explained to the committee that a mausoleum
holds a casket above the ground and is usually made of marble or
granite. It is in lieu of a concrete vault. As indicated by the
attached sketch the mausoleum in question is 7 ft. wide, 8 ft. 8
in. long; 3 ft. 2 in. tall and is made of solid granite. It would
be installed on a 6 in. concrete footer and weighs 15,000 lbs.
• After discussion from the Committee expressing their concern
about maintenance problems, possibly damaging adjoining property
during installation and setting a precedent for others to install
mausoleums, Patricia Speer made a motion that for the best
interest of the other cemetery property owners mausoleums should
not be allowed. Seconded by Chris Neal. PASSED. A second motion
was made by Patricia Speer to add to the cemetery rules &
regulations under Section VI. Miscellaneous; "All burials must
be below ground." Seconded by Chris Neal. PASSED.
