City Hall - Room #255 PRESENT: Bill Welborn, Bernard Mitchell, Kim Dent Jim Jernigan ALSO PRESENT: Linda Tucker Meeting called to order by Chairman, Bill Welborn, Minutes of 7 -12 -89 were reviewed and approved. Update on Cemetery Improvements Mr. Jernigan gave update on Cemetery improvements. Bid for construction was awarded to Shoemaker Construction. W.L. Sanderlin originally was awarded bid by Chase Family however they later withdrew their bid stating they could not do construction work for the bid cost they had originally submitted. Mr. Jernigan showed the proposed layout of the cemetery improvements. City has already installed a flagpole instead of including cost for this in the bid. City is now installing utility lines along the front area. Shoemaker Construction will be starting their work after the City is finished. The Scenic Improvement Board will probably submit a plan for landscaping. Review of Cemetery Rules & Regulations: Mr. Jernigan stated that the City Commission had reviewed the rules & regulations of the Cemetery. The City Commission did make one correction to read as follows: Section II. VETERAN BURIALS A) Free burial spaces for veterans will be provided under the following circumstances. City Commission added the word "spaces" to make the reading more clear. Recommendations for new Committee member. J.P. Stevens has resigned. Bill Welborn asked that members bring to next meeting names for recommendation to the City Commission to replace Mr. Stevens W e 0 Possible action to improve "Babyland" Mr. Jernigan suggested putting a small brick wall around area then sod and landscaping that section. He indicated that perhaps we install a mural in the section indicating "Babyland ". He asked that Bernard Mitchell & Bill Welborn get some quotes on cost of getting names engraved on plaques for the baby graves. Expansion of cemetery Chairman Bill Welborn suggested that City determine as a long range goal to expand the cemetery. This is one of the major goals indicated by the Cemetery Committee when they were first started meeting. There being no further business meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
