Progress of Cemetery Improvements by James Jernigan.
Mr. Jernigan showed a slide presentation to the Committee
showing progress of cemetery construction.
A new flagpole accented by flood lights was installed in the
cemetery. The flag flies 24 hours a day and lights are on at
night. The roadways are now under construction. Brick pillars
are to be put up. The columns will have lanterns which will come
on automatic by electric eye. Paving bricks are being laid
today. The electrical wiring will be done next. Construction
should be thru by Christmas. Next job will be the landscaping.
The preliminary water lines are already laid for the effluent
system.
Babyland Improvements
Jim Jernigan recommended outlining the baby section with a
brick border slightly raised. Where markers are set would be a
concrete post with a brass plaque identifying the grave. On the
back side of babyland would be a small wall with a mural. City
would also install an irrigation system and lay some sod. Due to
cost, this may need to be completed in phases.
Bill Welborn & Bette Gramkow stated they would get cost
figures on the plaques. Jim Jernigan estimated approximately 50
• baby graves were in this section. Jim stated he would work up an
approximate cost for the total project.
