MEMORANDUM

TO: All Members of Cemetery Advisory Committee
SUBJECT: General Information
The last meeting was held in conjunction with the dedication
of the Cemetery Entrance Ways. The ceremony was held on a very
cold & windy Friday afternoon, January 25, 1991.
The Mayor spoke officially for the City of Sanford and Chase
Lasbury responded for the Chase family.
There were approximately 20 people attending including the
Contractor, Kay Shoemaker.
In other news relating to the Sanford Municipal Cemetery,
the City contracted with a different maintenance contractor
• "Carefree Lawns ". To date they have done a good job in cleaning
up the cemetery. It was in poor condition because the previous
contractor had not provided required maintenance in several
months.
Staff has recommended an increase in cemetery space cost
from $350.00 to $450.00 in order to keep competitive with other
cemeteries in our geographical area. Also staff is recommending
an increase to $50.00 for baby spaces and $150.00 for cremations.
I have designated Section "H" and "J" to be developed for
cremation spaces.
The attached list of local area cemeteries show the cost of
single grave spaces and shows that the requested increase is
justified.
The cemetery space sales have increased between 1989 and
1990 with a 40% increase in 1990. If present trend continues
cemetery space sales will go as high as 80% above 1989 in 1991.
At the present time we have approximately 900 spaces unsold
in the Municipal Cemetery. The increase in sales would indicate
a sell -out in 7 - 8 years. (1998)
This information should bring everyone up to date.
