HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-31-91Approved meeting of 11 -20 -91 CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE Meeting of July 31, 1991 Rm 253 -City Hall Sanford, Florida Present: Bill Welborn, Chairman Bernard Mitchell, Vice Chairman Bette Gramkow, Secretary Jim Jernigan, Director of Parks Patricia Speer Also Present: Linda Tucker Meeting called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Chairman Bill Welborn. Invocation - Bette Gramkow Chairman welcomed Patricia Speer to the Committee. Minutes of October 17, 1990 & January 25, 1992 were reviewed. Jim Jernigan motioned to approve the minutes. Motion passed. Increase in price of cemetery spaces were discussed. Rates were increased 5- 14 -91. Adult spaces are now $450.00; Infants $50.00; Cremation spaces $150.00. Director had done a survey of all local cities' cemetery space rates. Sanford was one of the lowest rates. Rates are now comparable to other cities. A survey conducted after the rate increase showed the City's sales have been reduced some. Chairman, Bill Welborn requested another inventory of available spaces for the next meeting. Next to be discussed was the City's purchase of property behind the cemetery owned by Mrs. Crawford, for purposes of cemetery expansion. The City is making settlement on this parcel of property in amount of $65,000.00. Director reported that the cemetery maintenance contractor has been changed. Carefree Lawns Systems now has the -maintenance contract with the City. Several committee members commented on how good the cemetery has been looking. Director discussed the citizen participation program booklet with the Committee. He suggested that this booklet be given to all people purchasing spaces in the cemetery. Director reported there was a lot of damaged effluent water pipes due to the storm two weeks ago. Next meeting scheduled for October 2, 1991. No further business, meeting was adjourned at 4:05 p.m. 0
