Minutes of 7 -31 -91 were read and approved by the Committee. New Business: Howard Jeffries reported that there has been problems with flowers being stolen off the graves at the cemetery. He also reported that there had been problems with the cemetery maintenance contractor keeping the grounds maintained in good condition. He has sent Carefree Lawn Systems a letter giving him 30 days to bring the maintenance up to standard and to conform with the terms of the contract. After 30 days the contract will be rebid or be awarded to the second lowest bidder. Bette Gramkow asked if anything could be done to stop the breakins in the old graves behind the City cemetery. This was discussed by the Committee. It was agreed that this was a major problem and would be hard to resolve as no one wants to claim ownership or responsibility for these graves. Mike Kirby stated that his staff would try to obtain the names of the lot owners and then sit down with Police Chief Harriett and get his recommendations on what can be done and report back to the Committee. Bette Gramkow requested that Babyland be addressed again. The Committee had made recommendations to the City but nothing had been done. Staff will review the minutes and bring information back to the Committee. Chairman Bill Welborn mentioned that some funeral homes are using liners and not vaults for their burials. The Committee requested that a letter be drafted to all funeral homes stating that vaults must be used and not liners. Next on the agenda was election of officers.
