OLD BUSINESS:
Howard Jeffries reported that planters were installed on the
corners of Babyland and the fence had been repainted. We are
waiting for delivery of the markers by Superior Monument. The City
Commission has approved to pay for these markers from cemetery
donation funds.
The revised cemetery rules and regulations showing the
recommendations of April 26, 1995 were reviewed by the Committee.
It was recommended that the revised rules and regulations be
presented to the City Commission for approval. The main changes
were the price increase of cemetery spaces; the City to discontinue
charging annual care; and the City to handle the opening /closing of
graves.
Howard reported that the Parks staff after completing a survey with
other local cities on cemetery space rates felt that Sanford's
rates were still comparably low. After discussion with the
Committee it was recommended to increase the rates to $575.00 for
cemetery spaces; $200.00 for cremation spaces; and $75.00 for
infant spaces, which includes the cost of a small marker.
Howard reported that the opening /closing of graves by a contractor
was discussed with the City Manager,; however, staff is presently
conducting a survey with other local cities to see how they handle
this and what their rates are. Fred Gaines motioned that the City
consider handling the opening /closing of graves by a contractor.
Seconded by Bette Gramkow. PASSED.
No further business meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
