CITY OF SANFORD CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE Meeting of October 29, 1997 Room; 255 - City Hall Sanford, Florida PRESENT: Fred Gaines Thelma Mike Chris Neal Howard Jeffries Marilyn Brisson Linda Tucker Bill Welborn Meeting was called to order by Chairman, Bill Welborn. Chris Neal gave the invocation. Roll Call - All was present Bill Welborn welcomed our newest member, Thelma `like. Minutes of July 30, 1997 were read. Marilyn Brisson moved to approve minutes. Seconded - Fred Gaines. PASSED. Review of revised Cemetery Rules and Regulations: The revised Cemetery Rules and Regulations were reviewed by the Committee. Bill Welborn recommended that the following sentence be inserted under Section II. Markers & Coping: The City has the right to request a copy of the monument dealers occupational license, liability insurance and workers compensation insurance. Marilyn Brisson moved that the revised Cemetery Rules & Regulations be approved as amended. Seconded - Fred Gaines. PASSED. Bill Welborn asked that he be notified of the date when the Revised Cemetery Rules & Regulations are to be voted on by the City Commission. He also requested that the City give advance notice to all monument dealers as to what date a fee will be charged for marking monument layouts. Update on Cemetery Maintenance contract: Howard informed the Committee that the cemetery maintenance contract with The Bon Terre Group has been extended for another 12 months with a 5% increase. He stated that this contractor has been doing an excellent job in maintaining the grounds. Cemetery Improvements: Howard informed the Committee that the Parks and Grounds Maintenance staff will be installing palms along the outside perimeter of the cemetery and upgrading existing landscaping within the next month. A new potable water system is also being installed to replace the existing one in Evergreen and should be completed by the end of this year. The Committee inquired as to how many spaces are still. open for burial. Parks staff will research this and present their findings at the next meeting. 1 �► The Committee recommended that City staff prepare a cost estimate to develop the property behind the cemetery for additional burial spaces. This is the property that was purchased in 1991 from Mrs. Viola Crawford. The Committee also recommended that city staff prepare a cost estimate to fill in the ditch in Section E and correct the entrance on the west side of the Evergreen cemetery. Other Business: None. The Committee requested that meetings being at 3:00 p.m. and that a schedule for 1998 be mailed to all members. No further business meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m. 0 E
