doors; close in the back side of the stairwell; remove all interior walls and ceiling; replace
roof, and pressure wash, repoint bricks and paint the exterior. Project should be
completed by Sept. 14th. Christopher Neal asked what was the historical significance of
this building. Howard responded that the building was over 75 years old and was the
home of the cemetery caretaker. Bill Welborn asked if the City had plans to use the
building. Howard indicated that it was just being repaired for preservation, no plans have
been made to use the building.
Update on Page Jackson Cemeter: Alicia Clarke, Museum Curator gave an update on
preparing burial records for this area. Two Museum staff members actually went out to
the cemetery and walked the area and wrote down information on the tombstones. Since
this cemetery dates back to the 1940's there are a lot of graves that have been "lost"
because they had not been maintained or permanent markers installed. A metal detector
club combed the area and detected where vaults were and if no tombstone was there a
concrete column was put down to mark the grave location. Staff recorded this
information and Engineering Dept. composed maps. A request has been presented to
Seminole County to assist in installing a historical marker in Page Jackson Cemetery.
Update on repair of roadways: Howard reported that $5,000. had been budgeted in
FY2000 /2001 to repair the roadways at the cemetery.

Information on additional tree plantings at cemetery: Howard reported that most of the
dead trees in the cemetery had been removed. He is going to work with the Boy Scouts
on planting some new trees which will add a lot of tree canopy. The Crawford property
will not have trees added at this time.
Question on selling grave lots out of Crawford property: Christopher Neal asked if
Crawford property was prepared for sale of cemetery lots. Howard replied that it was,
however we need to look into a rate increase before selling lots. Staff will conduct a
survey with other municipalities on rates. Bill Welborn stated that when determining
rates that the committee and staff need to keep in mind that the cemetery is supported by
taxes and is not comparable to private cemeteries.
