Repointing may only occur in selected areas where deterioration of existing mortar joints is determined to compromise the integrity of the building envelope; 2) repointing may be executed after a proposal for selective repointing has been approved based on photographic evidence; 3) original mortar must be analyzed so an appropriate mortar mix is used to avoid trapping moisture upon repointing; 4) pre-mix concrete or ready-made Portland cement is not an acceptable replacement for existing mortar joints and may not be used.
