HomeMy WebLinkAbout040114 SMAB minsSanford Museum Advisory Board Meeting April 1, 2014 4 :30 PM Present: Christine Kinlaw Best, Chairman Carole Hinshaw, Vice Chairman Joyce Qualls, Secretary Jim Lee Francis Oliver Paul F. Hodgins Valada Flewellyn Joshua Dane Julie Ellenburg, Secretary Alicia Clarke, Curator Absent: Charlie Carlson- excused. Mark McCarty, Museum Liaison, Sanford City Commissioner Meeting was called to order at 4:45PM at the Sanford Museum by Chairman Best. The minutes of the January 7, 2014 meeting were approved as written and signed by Christine Kinlaw Best, Chairman. Old Business Valada Flewellyn updated board members on her new exhibit Praise, Reach, and Teach: The Legacy of Joseph and Wealthy Crooms which opened at the Sanford Museum on February 15. Objects in the exhibit are on loan from the Crooms family and information has been provided by the John C. Riley House in Tallahassee. The papers of Joseph Crooms are in the collection of the Riley museum. The exhibit will be open through May. Ms. Flewellyn shared her website w , "v.valadaflewellynxorn for pictures of the event. Valada Flewellyn also advised board members that the Historical Society does a newsletter six times a year and Ms. Clarke advised to add current board members. Mrs. Oliver needs to be included and join as well. Ms. Clarke provided Mrs. Oliver with a Historical Society newsletter. Ms. Clarke asked Ms. Qualls for help working with the Welcome Center. Ms. Qualls volunteers there and advised that Christine Dalton will be a quest speaker on May 22nd. Ms. Qualls advised that there is a meeting room at the Welcome Center which can be booked after 5PM at no rental fee or charge. Alicia Clarke asks if the meeting room was opened to the public, Ms. Qualls advised that she would meed to ask Margie Chesmur. Valada Flewellyn advised the board the the exhibit for the Celery City Soup changes every month. Christine Kinlaw Best advised that she has a release for permit for a photo for the filming crew. She asked about having changes handwritten and perhaps emailing back. Ms. Oliver stated her concerns over agreements and advised that she always request funds and don't use freelance. Part of the filming to take place will be aired on the Weather Channel. Charlie Carlson Ist documentary on 14 Dead Zone which was well known and made National Headlines. Ms. Oliver spoke of her home being destroyed in September 1960. Ms. Clarke and Ms. Oliver discussed when the opening of the new bridge took placed. Ms. Oliver advised it would have been summer of 1961 or in the early 1962 before she headed off to college. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:06PM. Signature of Chairman
