The item on the Agenda consisted on Mr. Steve Cook, Director of
Central Florida Regional Airport, making a presentation as to the
relationship between the Airport and the Planning and Zoning
Commission.
Mr. Steve Cook, Director of Central Florida Regional Airport,
showed a video relative to marketing at the Airport.
Mr. Cook stated that there are 2,000 acres of property, and there
are 900,000 square feet of existing developed space which is 99%
leased. The Central Florida Regional Airport can handle any
aircraft that flies. There is a possibility of expanding the main
runway from 8,000 feet to 10,000 feet to capture the international
market. On one end there is about 1500 feet that could be used for
an extension and on the other end approximately 1,00.0 feet. 10,000
feet is ideal for a runway. The 6,000 foot runway has no expansion
plans. The Airport is looking at the possibility of opening a
third runway some day. It is being reviewed by FAA and will be
3,500 feet for small planes. Mr. Cook stated that 2% of the
airports in the country have better airfield facilities than
Sanford. Terminal facilities at Sanford is being reviewed now by
the Airport Authority for improvement.
Mr. Cook stated that there will be over $3
year. Another project driven by growth is
with radar scope. It will be constructed

an arf vehicle, a fire prevention vehicle that has foam, water,
etc. The cost of the fire prevention vehicle is $310,000 and has
been funded by FAA.
Mr. Cook stated that obtaining better access is critical. DOT has
funded a road that will tie into Marquette and are reviewing with
the County as to what it will take to fix this road up. What is
funded now will terminate at Marquette; possibly to tie into Silver
Lake Drive.
Mr. Cook noted that there are approximately 1,400 employees on the
airport now, the industrial park produces the money that the
airport needs to operate.
