The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the Vice - Chairman, Cliff
Miller, in the absence of the Chairman.
The first item on the agenda was a Public Hearing to rezone from SR -lA to SR -1,
property located at 2001 Jefferson Ave. for the purpose of a duplex, represented
by owner Donna Hostnick. She said they plan to build a duplex with both sides
to be rented.
Present to speak in opposition: Louis Rotundo, L. T. Brown and Geneva Brantley,
all residents of the area and in opposition to the rezoning because of the in-
trusion into the SR -lA neighborhood for the purpose of a duplex. A letter was
submitted with signatures of twenty -five (25) residents of the area in opposition
to the rezoning.
After discussion of the size of the lot and the purpose intended, Mr. Galloway
moved to recommend denial of the request. Mrs. Roberts seconded. Motion carried
unanimously.
The next item was a Public Hearing to rezone from MR -1 to RI -1, property located
at 2601 McCracken Rd. for warehouses for light industrial, represented by Ann
Wallace for Kenneth W. McIntosh, Trustee. Mrs. Wallace said she and Tom Ball,
prospective buyer, had met with the Homeowner's Association of Academy Manor
and the members had expressed their desire to have the area remain multiple -
family zoning for much - needed housing. She said Mr. Ball plans a clean at-
mosphere and that no one had expressed in interest in building homes there.
Mr. Ball was present to explain the type businesses he plans for the area and
said that each of the five different businesses would provide employment for
twenty (20) to twenty -five (25) people.
Present to speak in opposition were: Carolyn Johnson, James Bradshaw, Renee
Woods and Daisy Curry, all residents of Academy Manor and all in opposition to
the proposed rezoning because of the amount of industrial surrounding them at
the presebt time, in addition to the need for more residential units.
After much discussion, Mr. Franklin said he felt the area could be developed
on the north for residential and he moved to recommend denial of the request.

Mrs. Smith seconded the motion. The vote was as follows: For the motion:
Mr. Franklin, Mrs. Smith and Mr. Galloway. Against the motion: Mr. Carli,
Mr. Davidson, Mr. Miller and Mrs. Roberts. Motion failed to carry.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed. There being no
further business, the meeting was adjourned.
