HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.02.60ZONING AND PLANNING COMMISSION June 2 1960 Regular Meeting 7:30 PM Members present Were: Messers, Mcgibbin, Bush, Sirtley, Johnson, Morgan, Harris Lee, and.Talley. Also present were: City Manager Knowles anA Assistant Building Official Risner. Chairman McSibbin called the meeting to order. The reading of the previous minutes was waived. Chairman McAibbin then read a letter from Attorney Douglas Stenstrom that he would not be able to be present as a representative for the rezoning request regarding the church property in Lane's Addition. The Chairman then presented to the Board for consideration the rezoning of Lots 12, 14, and 16, Lane's Addition from that of R -lA to that of R -2 for church construction. The request applied to the property of the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS situated in the block between 23rd and 246 Streets and Park and Magnolia Aves. The following facts were presented to the Board in re- gards to the request: (a) Lots 12, 14, and 16 out of this entire block are zoned R -lA, the rest of the property being an R -2. (b) The church owns all of the property in this block with the exception of Lots 12 and 14. (c) The church is in the process of purchasing Lots 12 and 14. (d) To have full use of their property within the entire block and furnish off - street parking in compliance with the City Ordinance, they would have to have these lots in an R -2 zone and there- by make the property a contigious R -2 zone. Moved by Mr. Morgan seconded. by Mr. Johnson and carried that Lots 12, 14, and 16, Lkii'S ADDITION, be recommended to the City Commission and a public hearing be held for the re- zoning from an. R--lk to that of R -2. Upon consent of Mr. Morgan and Mr. Johnson to withdraw their original motion it was moved by Mr. Bush, seconded by Mr. Harris and Carrie& that Lots 12, 14 and 16 LANE'S ADDITION, Z & P .. minutes June 2, 1960 Page 2 be recommended to the City Commission for rezoning from an R -lA to R -2, provided that there is a petition presented to the abutting property owners of the lots prior to the actual public hearing being held. Kirtley then mentioned to the Chairman that he was Z in favor of following the Board's 10 -day policy for any appli- cation before the actual meeting date, w cn CL a'b D ct 0 O CIO In discussing the submitting of previous petitions, it was moved by Mr. Harris, seconded by Mr, Morgan and carried that the CHURCH OF CHRIST be requested to submit for file a signed petition by the abutting property owners, of single family dwellings to Lot 6 Keeley Addition, which was recommended for rezonlxg from an R -1A to that of R -2 to allow church con- struction on their property west of Park Avenue between 152 and 162 Sts. City Manager Knowles then reported to the Board that Mr. George Simons of Jacksonville stated that the finished draft of the comprehensive planning stud should be ready for presentation within the month of June. It was the Board's recommendation that the City Manager contact fir. Simons and request that the material be submitted for a "study by the members two weeks prior to the discussion meeting with him.
