SPECIAL JOINT WORK SESSION
Deputy City Manager Tom George presented a PowerPoint presentation that
outlined the history of the Mellonville property. He said that it has always served the public.
Mayor Triplett said that he would like to see the property continue to serve the
public. He said that his goal for the property is to develop and create additional ball fields,
parking and perhaps a sports training center.
Seminole County School Board Executive Director of Operations, Joe Ranaldi,
said that currently they are utilizing two buildings on the property for storage; however, the
buildings are falling apart and they are in the process of moving out of the buildings. It would be
great if they could re- locate stored items into the A -10 building which is also on the property.
Mayor Triplett said that the City is currently using the A -10 building for instructional use. SCSB
Member Dede Schaffner asked Mr. Ranaldi if there are any other locations to consider and he
said that there is not. Mayor Triplett said that he is not interested in a storage warehouse on the
site with trucks coming in/out with so many children on the property.
Mr. George suggested that the former gymnastics building may be a potential site
that the SCSB could use for storage, and if they are interested the two entities could potentially
do a swap.
There was a consensus among the SCSB and the City Commission to move
forward with Mr. George and Mr. Ranaldi meeting to discuss and review properties. Upon
completion of this, a joint meeting will be scheduled to discuss.
