HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD
MEETING OF JULY 8, 1999
5:00 P.M.

The Chairman called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M.
Mr. Moore moved on approval of the Minutes as submitted. Seconded by Ms. Goeb. All in favor. Motion
carried.
Due to a lack of a quorum, the Board considered this to be a committee meeting for discussion purposes. The
Minutes would have to be reconfirmed.
The first item considered was the addendum item - 918 S. Myrtle Avenue - install shed in rear yard. Victoria
Myers, 859 Benchwood Drive, Winter Springs, was present. They would like to install the shed for storage
purposes, i.e. bicycles, lawn equipment.
At 5: 40 P.M., Ms. Farrell and Ms. Nacu were in attendance. The meeting was officially called to order.
Mr. Moore moved to approve as submitted. Seconded by Ms. Goeb. Mr. Moore withdrew his motion and Ms.
Goeb withdrew her second due to discussion regarding the location of the shed. Ms. Ransom moved to approve
the structure; however not in the location on the drawing as submitted, but further back on the property,
preferably in line with the house adhering to Schedule S. Seconded by Ms. Farrell. All in favor. Motion carried.

Application for Certificate of Appropriateness -Residential: 422 Palmetto Avenue -request to demolish
structure.
Ms. Goeb moved to remove from table. Seconded by Ms. Ransom. All in favor. Motion carried
Foreman Heard, 101 E. 7 th Street, Sanford, was present representing the First United Methodist Church of
Sanford. Mr. Heard stated that he had talked with Alec Then of Liman Restoration regarding figures to restore
the structure and to demolish it. Those figures were provided to the Board by Mr. Van Gaale. He stated that he
had a call from someone wanting to know if the structure could be moved outside of the District.
Ms. Nacu suggested that the Church and the Board take a couple of months to explore all possibilities that could
occur whether to relocate or to see if any interest can be generated from the non -profit organizations in town in
renovating the structure or make a decision to actually demolish it.
Ms. Ransom moved to not allow demolition; but, however allow relocation inside or outside the District.
Seconded by Ms. Goeb. Ms. Ransom amended her motion that the structure can be moved within or outside the
Historic District with designation of a historic landmark. Ms. Goeb seconded the amendment. Mr. Singeisen in
opposition. All others in favor. Motion carried.
Residential Certificate of Appropriateness - 517 Myrtle Avenue. Ms. Goeb moved to remove from the table.
Seconded by Mr. Moore. All in favor. Motion carried.
Willene and Henry Barraza were present. They would like to install a 12x20 shed where the existing small shed
is now. The small shed will be torn down. It will be used to store materials and lawn equipment while they are
doing work on the house. Later, they would like to use it as a garage. The back yard will be totally enclosed by a
privacy fence. The shed will have double doors in the front and a window on each side. White in color with a
shingle roof.
Ms. Goeb moved to approve the garage, No. 2, as presented. Seconded by Ms. Farrell. All in favor. Motion
carried.
Ms. Barraza stated that the upper level of the deck will come directly off the kitchen door.
Ms. Farrell moved to approve the deck and railings with square spindles. Seconded by Ms. Goeb. All in favor.
Motion carried.
Schedule S Revisions were postponed until next time.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:40 P.M.
